Apparently the Manly board back in the early-mid 1990's thought joining the SL would actually be a good idea. I think though that it was loyalty to Arko as ARL boss and with Bozo being both our coach and Australian coach that saw us side with the ARL.

For all of his faults, John Ribot was no dummy. He had been a player at Manly and SL did want the club. And at the time (1995) when SL first really came into being (publicly at least when they started signing up clubs and players), Manly was the top club. And SL always said they wanted the best, that included the Sea Eagles.
