The Sea Eagles have signed one of Canterbury's best juniors. John Hopoates nephew 18 yr old former Australians schoolboys star George Francis. The 115 kilo front rower has been known to bench press 150 kilo's. He is a morman but will play on sunday's.

We're sure signing a lot of young forwards with huge potential. If two or three of these young guys reach their predicted ability, our forward pack will be seriously good and for a number of years. The truth is more than two of Sironen, Lane, Meehan, Perrett, AFB, Francis and Hopoate could go on to bigger and better things. Very exciting times indeed.

Forward who has good ball skills and was in the Australian U15 merit team as a 15yr old. Can actually play a bit when focused and motivated at 115kg. Unfortunately has done nothing since and seems to run around at 5ft 8 and 120kg plus most of the time, might bench 150kg but struggles with the cardio side and is lucky to do 3 laps. Living of past reputation and family name and seems to get a leg up over more deserving and higher performing players because of family connection. Played 2 years of matts and 1 year of SG ball with the dogs with no great success. The bulldogs were happy to see the back of him due to a poor attitude and lack of discipline. Uncle hoppa gets him a gig with the manly SG ball team which he coaches but then gets suspended before the season even starts because of an unsavoury act in a trial game and cops 6 weeks. Comes back and gets suspended again and only plays 3 SG ball games for the season. Played 5 U20 games before season ending surgery on a chronic knee injury. Bit of a gamble as could end up okay or never heard from again in 18 months time. This ones a wait and see.

But I heard his mom say he was a good boy.

This is a very different story @Goldentalon . I think your version may be closer to the truth. But, good luck to him, hope he comes good.

George Francis ... article from 2014

Giant George Francis aims to be even bigger

He is the Australian Schoolboys star who weighs 110 kilograms, can bench press 150kg and is only 15.

Oh, and did we mention that he is Will Hopoate's first cousin?

Meet George Francis, one of the most exciting young talents in rugby league. The Westfield Sports High star is literally one of the biggest things in junior footy and has the pedigree to go all the way.

After a stint in the Parramatta junior system, Francis is contracted to arch rivals Canterbury and is a member of that club's exclusive high-performance unit.

There is plenty of sporting talent in this family. His 16-year-old sister, Masani, plays netball for NSW. And having watched his cousin, Will, and uncle John Hopoate, the former Sea Eagles powerhouse, make the big time, good judges believe Francis is poised to do likewise.

''I want to follow in their footsteps and make it too,'' said Francis, one of the main reasons his Mounties team have won the past seven titles.

He has already overcome his share of adversity to take the footy field. He broke an ankle so badly in an under-13s game that doctors told him he would never play rugby league again.

However, he proved them wrong and, despite still having plates in his leg, has come back stronger than ever. The big forward can already squat 180kg and was the player of the tournament in a NSW schoolboys competition.

The Bulldogs tried to sign him up for three years but his agent, Mario Tartak of Crown Sports International, agreed to only two, knowing his client would be hot property when next off contract.

''We actually knocked back higher offers because we thought this was the best opportunity for him to develop,'' Tartak said.

Like William Hopoate, Francis is a devout Mormon and begins every day with bible studies before squeezing in his school and footballing commitments.

''He doesn't stop eating,'' chuckled his mother, Loretta. ''He doesn't party, he doesn't put distractions like that before his football and other priorities.''

... he was 115kg at 15!! ... and bench pressing 150Kg ... now thats impressive

Great if there is a position that just requires to bench press. I suppose articles have to concentrate on something, even if it has nothing to do with footy.
