wow. ive run 11.04 back in my school days, they really aren't that quick huh.

Difference is they are running it in their 20's.

I use to run it in 11 - 12 but now would be about 13 - 15 with my knees shot like they are

I just expected them to be quicker is all. Looks a hell of a lot faster on the footy field.

I think the big difference is that across 40m some of these guys would be bloody fast. But they are not conditioned for 100m runs.

They certainly aren't built for it

Maybe we should throw Lachie Turner into our Comm Games team. Surely he'd be quicker than the other dogs we have running.

should be rebadged Australias fastest footballer except for AFL fags who werent allowed to compete because of a sponsors clash.

I was there -- Hayne was in front with 10 to go, and just couldn't keep the pace up...

It would have been good to see Uate etc there.

Where's Snake?  :(

(please don't answer 'in court')

From the footage from Monday he still has a slight limp. I would say he isn't even running properly yet

Footballers don't have a standing start but are generally moving. Believe it or not I ran sub 11 seconds when I was just out of school but in the 100m I was not quick enough on the acceleration to be in the top drawer - used to make up the numbers at State level. I was much better at 200 m and 400m. An athlete can only sustain top speed for about 40-50 m and the training allows them to stay as close to that for as long as possible. League players work at the explosive 40 metres or so.

I have been an official at many school events in which Lachie Turner competed and he was top drawer - though not quite up with the very best in the state. Clontaago - he wouldn't make the Commonwealth games. Our best sprinters are around 10.1 or 10.2 and that is over 10 m difference. Bolt and co run 9.8 at their best.

Waste of time having it over 100m.
That's not what they've trained for.

I'd be interested to see 40m, 60m, & 80m races.
That would actually be interesting & prove something. Maybe the coaches don't want that sort of information becoming public.

Soccer players would be better suited to marathons.

It should have been goal post to goal post on grand final day with the fans voting for who they want to run. two from each club maybe.
