A glaring problem against the Panthers was our distribution from dummy half.

This is not just a knock on Croker. Numerous players threw terrible, slow passes from dummy half. Watch how many times DCE catches the ball above his head or has to wait for ball, stifling play. Harper is particularly wayward from dummy half.

Compare that to Penrith. Crisp, bullet-like passes, often long distance. Passes that allow players to run on to the ball. Fast, spiral passing from a number of players, not only Kenny/Luke.

Every Manly player should learn how to pass from dummy half, both sides. Get this right and we'll have much more momentum in attack.

Agree. It’s not rocket science. Matty Ballin had an awesome pass from dummy half. This is a significant problem for us.

The passing was particularly poor the other night. Some of the team point blank don't know how to pass from dummy half. Our centres in particular were woeful. It wasnt just the lack of accuracy, it was the big lob passes that let Penrith be on the receiver as thr ball was caught. DCE didnt have a great game but he was often catching the ball waiting to get smashed

Its just another basic fundamental that many of our team lacks. Stuff you learn in juniors, how to pass flat and straight.

Im surprised you haven't copped flak for telling the truth. Im fast learning that telling the truth around these forums sometimes feels like blasphemy.

He wastes a lot of time half standing up looking for a receiver, he should be passing it off the ground rapid fire.

Yeah, nah - you don’t have to worry about a dummy half when you’re not capable of holding onto the ball. Despite the fact we’re not good at it, we love tackling so much we always give the ball away. Ergo, a dummy half is surplus to requirements. Problem solved!

I do agree about the passes being slow and sloppy, however another 2 key area's we lack through the middle/ruck area is an attacking 9 who can pick and go with dynamic impact and the other is the ability to suck in the markers and put our big men over the advantage line, which of course creates momentum.....we lack all 3 of these abilities and all are the start of breaking down opposition defence.
This then only adds more pressure on the Tom T, Oka, DCE to use individual brilliance, as we are not able collevtively as a team, to gain that momentum through the middle.

I didn’t think Harper could be blamed for anything else. I was wrong.

It's a half second and the difference when running between having your front foot planted when the defensive line hit you and having it in the air.

That's the difference in bending the line and or be stopped or pushed back on plays two through four.

That gets the opposition retreating and makes space when you spread the ball. It all starts at the ruck and Manly's service isn't deceptive and isn't accurate enough consistently.

The only time Manly gets go forward is through a forward getting one over the defence physically, never from these cumulative half seconds adding up from accurate service from dummy half from any player. GREAT THREAD!
