I think Waddell's role in the squad is more then just a backup second rower. I see a lot of similarities between Waddell and Bullemor. When Bullemor came to Manly a couple of years ago he was like Waddell and how is now, just a pretty average backrower with a decent workmate but nothing special in the backrow. But Bullemor has really succeeded from becoming a bench middle forward who adds leg speed in the middle of the ruck through fast line speed, play the balls and a mobile forward. Waddell has very similar attributes and physique to Bullemor and with the transition of the game becoming more focused on speed and ruck speed I can see Waddell being a handy middle forward coming off the bench behind Bullemor in the pecking order though. Probably wouldn't play both of these blokes if we have gordy playing 14 because then you could have the danger of an explosive/ power forward pack taking advantage of our more speedy/mobile pack but if Bullemor is injured or we playing a 4 man forward bench I recon Waddell can add great value to the squad. Thoughts?

I am on board with what you are saying. its definately the way forward. My concern is that we play a lot of foooty on the back foot and those lighter style forwards dont dent the line as much to earn the quick play the ball

i think whatever model we go with a more dominant rate of posession is required for it to be effective

ending the first half behind a 60/40 rate of possesion is a worrying trend for quite a few seasons

our huge pack went well in 21 when tom had us scoring 10 tries a game and they had many stints waiting for goals to be kicked

Any player that signs a 1 year deal is obviously being signed as depth so I wouldn't stress too much. He is adequate depth in that he is mobile and athletic. I'd sooner like to see Waddell suit up off the bench for a 15-20 minute stint in the middle, than Aaron Woods.
Well, when you put it like that. @:D

Probably regard Waddell again more as a substitute for the likes of Boyle.
Nothing wrong with budget type and workmanlike [ but definitely not flash ] depth inclusions .
Certainly a less type of injury prone player a bonus also
Would seem to offer a bit more then Condon in the main squad at the present time also , plus his former link to the club and some familiarity there .

Problem is, Condon is still contracted. So are Lawton and Fulton.
Hey, maybe the club could ask them to give up their deals 'on compassionate grounds'? Think about us suffering fans, who are really starting to hurt big-time!🤔

Probably not much scope for Lawton even if he was regularly match fit to make much of a difference in i st grade , as good a competitor as he tries to be .
Young Grodie a more suited 9 option now , Shu back to the forwards , most likely only on modest money [ Lawton ] but still also occupying a main squad position of course .
Condon can still make a useful contribution at Blacktown but like Lawton and Fulton [ who may have some limitations now also for i st grade ] hardly providing much inspiration as main squad members .

If we've paid Waddell one penny more than absolute league minimum (90k or something isn't it?) not only should our entire recruitment team be sacked, I personally think a public tar and feathering are in order.

Possibly the first week training resumes.

I love a good public tar and feathering. Not enough of it these days.

Bit harsh. He can hold his own in first grade, and is an improvement on Woods and Boyle. I imagine he is on $200-$300k
