Seeing the game also remembering we had Saturday afternoon games in the warmth of the spring weather! That was great about semi’s at that time.
The crowd was 34,707 - 1991 Minor Semi Final: Canberra Vs Manly (played Saturday afternoon).
Someone explain the semi’s in the 1990’s prior to live TV with the good crowds:
“A 35,000 attendance in some cases was classed as sold out game due to SCG/SFS Members not turning up and leaving vast banks of seat unoccupied. The four week final series was marketed differently back then. To purchase a grand Final ticket, you had to buy a four week final series package. Also, people from the country could pre purchase tickets and make a weekend of it in Sydney for the first three weeks of the series. Even season Ticket folders had to go into a ballet for Grand Final tickets. So with Grand Final Packages, pre sold seats and member allocations, not a lot of tickets were available for walk upsâ€.
