Well i got the season highlights DVD for Chrissie and sat back and watch it yesterday.  First off I must say if you haven't got it, do yourself a favour and get it - so many great memories.

A few things from the DVD,

- Brett Stewart is a genius, I know Gronk wants to root him but I would deadset turn gay and marry him tomorrow.
2/ Lyon, Beaver, Choc were involved in so many of our tries I was amazed.
3/ Bell also was thereabouts on many occasions when tries were scored
4/ I don't want 2008 to finish, unless we go back to back.

My 2 yr old daughter also got here 1st Manly flag for Xmas.

Anyone else get Manly stuff in their Xmas stocking??

Yep, the gang bought me the Limited Edition DVDs, which includes the highlights, and I bought them scarves and key rings.  It was the first time I have ventured out to Narrabeen, quite the country setting.  I must agree Wheel, Choc had a great year.  Just how many tries did he get in 08.  I also thought the highlights DVD showed just how good Robbo is at finding the try line in tight situations.  How many tries he scored centimetres from the sidelines defied belief.  And Beaver could have easily gone around again in 2009.  Wouldn't surprise me if he makes a cameo appearance in 09 to beat that scum-dog Lamb's total of games played.

Got a big framed picture of the GF victory with tryscorers down each side and a big group shot in the middle.

Beaver book (Reads like it was written by a first time author and a child, but still none the less an interesting read. I think He should have gotten a more well known shadow writer to give it more direction)
Got some other trinkets like a mouse pad, bottle opener and Ice Cubes. 2 stubby holders and a towel as well, all Manly!

Received the Gf and season highlights and was amazed at how many times beaver scored and set up tries on the highlights package. 

Gallop and the rest of the NRL should resign now for not allowing long term one club players like beaver to be excempt from the salary cap and top 25 player lists.  He should still be playing with us next year and the NRL could do with more players like him rather than dickheads like SBW, Bird etc.

Also received the firbros vs silvertails DVD.  How good was Randall's hit on Donnelly in the semi final.  Hoppa should have watched the DVD and he would have learned how to put a proper shooter on a player.

Ltd Edition Victory DVD pack for me.  I still couldn't watch some of the games we lost.  Was surprised the first game or two showed highlights for the other teams also.
But terrific package and good viewing, especially the Cougar-Beaver show

Closest i have gotten is Mum who got me a Matthew Johns book and there are plenty of good stories about Manly players in there

Yeah not much many related stuff for me either.

I got the Matty Johns book KE talked of and also the Beaver book Dan talked of.

Other than that I got alot of stuff for the house I have just purchased and move into in 3 weeks.

I haven't purchased the GF dvd or seasons highlights (as I thought I would have got it for xmas, considering it was all I asked for) but true to form it wasn't to be so I will organise to get them over the next couple of weeks.

Yeah got to agree with you there Dan - I got it myself for XMAS, and it is kind of all over the place the way it is written. 

Also it's too obvious that what happened was they sat down with Beaver and interviewed him, and then basically typed out what he said with a couple of sentences in between to attempt to make it flow. 

One other thing is it repeats itself - I noticed almost the same descriptions given about playing with Cliffy Lyons in there on a number of occasions.

Yeah Gronk agree 100%, the same thing is said over and over and over again.

You are right I would say they asked him a few key questions and he answered them, then they padded it out.

I also think they asked him to write a few paragraphs on some topics and that is how they padded it out. the excerpts that are in each chapter are obviously what they used.

It's a shame really, but no one expects Menzies to write it himself, I mean I couldn't do better, but I think it would have been nice to have someone write it who knows a lot about Menzies or who at least has written some top line Biographies before.

Still a good book and gives some good insights and Beaver is a legend so no harm no foul

The problem with writing about beaver is there is no controversies or no "dirt" on the bloke hahahha.

I am about to begin reading about the super league offers. That should be interesting.

Still to date the finest piece of Manly related writing is "Arko". Incredible insight from the godfather.

Back to Xmas, the local memorbillia/framing shop up here has a plethora of Manly related "pool room" stuff. The girlfriend picked me out three photos within the one frame - the entire team sitting in front of the fans, Beaver with the tropy & Ox with the trophy. Plus the general match info written beside it (40-0 btw).

Also picked up a Manly towel and a put-in-the-freezer-to-keep-your-piss-cool mug.

Plus the best present of all, gloating rights at every BBQ, Xmas party/pissup, cabride and sports related conversation for the next 12 months.

it's not so much the content of Beavers book that is the issue, its how it is filled in. a definite paint by numbers job but there are also some great gems of information in there.
