Reserve Grader
Everyone talks about Manly needing to recruit a marquee prop or backrower.

I'd invest some salary cap on gun wingers.

Jorge may or may not be here. Uate will final year of contract. Wright / Kelly look a touch slow, and no stand-out wing back-ups in reserve grade/ 20s ready for NRL next year.

Would be happy with Marika Koriebete or Gideon Mosby-Gela. Or injury free Yaw Kit Glymin. Or bargain-price Marcelo Montoya from Dogs.

It would be nice if we had wingers who could competently catch bombs in both attacking and defensive roles. We do not seem to score that many tries from kicks but we concede a few. It would be desirable that we have a goal kicker with at least 80 percent success rate moving forward.

We score enough tries as it is and our backs are fine defensively except kelly, who can improve (backs better with Siro back in defence).

Have rarely seen a specialist winger worth two bob in 25 years. Been a few "steady as she goes" types like Robbo or Nightingale. The current Storm guys are OK but lets see if they can put a 5 year career together, i am doubting it severley

Gotta go back to Tom Mooney, Kerry Boustead and Terry Fahey days for a genuine group of wingers.

These days its a rarity to see a Semi Radrada type play rep football. Generally all rep wingers are either centres or fullbacks.

At the end of the day wingers are players that arent good enough to play elsewhere.

Cannon Fodder most of them.

The difference between the great wingers of yesterday and todays gorillas is that every second kick , especially the storm goes in their direction. Thats is a big part in why they are so bloody dangerous. I hope we keep uate past next season, but a tall rangy winger like they have would be welcome.

Rapana is the go - now reality!!
Truth is - to afford marquee players, you need some steady, reliable players...Wright has been a surprise packet and is 1 of these.
Most wingers tries are scored inside the opposition red zone and only require a 5-15 metre finish.... the 80 metre Addo Carr tries are only 1 in 20 games where the close range are every game.
If we want a flashy type, I think maybe look in our own back yard before throwing out the big dollars with young Anderson an energetic type who has potential, or Tom Wright - who may be a sensation out wide??
Long as our wingers are safe...have energy and get that early roll on, that'll do me.

The two tries Uate scored last week were very good. He is top shelf and when Jorge is back we are well covered for wingers.

Genuine wingers are a rarity in rep footy for Australia these days. Brett Morris (who is now out of rep footy) and Josh Mansour are probably the exceptions to the rule. Maybe Daniel Tupou as well if he ever gets picked.

Darius Boyd, Valentine Holmes and Jarryd Hayne are fullbacks, Blake Ferguson and Dane Gagai are centres while 1nglis hasn't played on the wing since 2008. We'd probably have to go back to the likes of Tuqiri, Sailor, Mat Rogers and Rod Wishart as genuine wingers in rep footy (and even Wishart started out as a centre). Even Tommy is likely to play a lot of his rep career on the wing or in the centres with Tedesco the specialist fullback.

A big & fast Winger or Centre (ideally 1 of each) , with some aerial skills is definately needed.
It would open up so many more attaching options for the team.

Too many people on here are in denial...............Kelly or Parker don't fit the bill...............and Uate & Jorge are too much of the same.
Uate is playing out of his skin and on this form is a must.
Jorge should be replaced. He has been getting injured a bit and he's an absolute liability under the high ball defensively.

Gideon Mosby-Gela would be my number one pick for a cheap but very talented, speedy, try scoring wing specialist.
My wish list of 11 alternative wingers include;
Josh Ado-Carr
Suliasi Vunivalu
Jordan Rapana
Daniel Tupou
Josh Mansour
DWZ
Semi Radradra
Marika Korobeite
Campbell Graham
Jordan Kahu
Kaito Otto

All of them would require different offers of course.

Wish we could get Waqa Blake for the centres too! Is it too early to start my Christmas Wishlist to Santa?
A strike winger and a strike centre! and if I really behave, Bozo might even throw in Klemmer or JWH

I still think that Jorge would make a good impact forward off the bench. My only concern would be his defence in the forwards.

Sure, its a possibility, as long as he's not on the wing.

Personally I doubt he would be able to do the job.
I think it's one thing running back the ball from your own goal line early in the tackle count v charging into the ruck as his full time job!

The extra workload would be telling. Hell, some wingers get gassed moving to fullback just because of the extra running. In the forwards taking hit ups and tackling around 3 or 4 times more than normal would require a lot more fitness.

Its very rare that a winger ever becomes a converted forward. She-Rex did it, but we all know how that went. I remember 20-25 years ago the so-called experts were predicting that Brisbane test winger Michael Hancock would end up in the back row, but Wayne Bennett didn't budge knowing that he wouldn't be able to handle the much larger workload.

Im most interested in how Cotric goes next season.

The Raiders are the only team I can think of whose 2 best players, currently play on the wing.

There was a trend in the '80s the other way, however for some inexplicable reason, such a move plays havoc on the players virtuosity....

If you look at the mainstay representative wingers of the 80's and 90's, surprisingly there were actually a few genuine wingers.

John Ribot, Kerry Boustead, Eric Grothe, Chicka Ferguson, Les Kiss, Rod Wishart, Willie Carne, Michael Hancock, Wendell Sailor, Brett Dallas, they were all wingers. Others like Snoz, Rowdy, Tony Currie, Chris Johns, Andrew Ettingshausen, Brett Mullins, Tim Brasher and Robbie O'Davis were all centres or fullbacks, or both.

Yep surely we can steal one of them.....

I think theres a few out there........
