Who played well in Flegg and Reserve Grade

The Who

Journey Man
Flegg: A narrow win but the standard was average. Schuster, when he chose to get involved, was pure class. We had some big boys in the forwards. The one that impressed me was Naihana Oldham. Jack Birt came on as a replacement hooker and added spark to the team. There was a big kid called Vilianu Fifita who was OK. I wonder if he is related to Andrew Fifita?
As for Ben Turbo: I know we are all hoping he'll be a mix of Tom and Jake but I was unimpressed today with his defence, and he is no speedster. I hope I'm wrong.
Workers: I really don't know how serious the players are about winning. The team hit the lead with 20 minutes to go and then just capitulated. I thought with their personnel that they would be better.
Luke Metcalf: Had one of the worst first halves I've seen in a long time. He is certainly not a fullback. He made three howlers that led directly to tries, and showed nothing in attack. This guy is a halfback, but I can't see him forcing his way into Blacktown in that position as we have Cust and Dylan Phythian, who was quite impressive. If ever Tom Turbo gets hurt we should never consider Metcalf as a replacement. Elliot is a much more polished player in that position and scored three tries today.
Again we seemed to have gone for giant forwards. Sam Manukleua and Petro Ben Nakubuwai were reasonably good but I expected them to be more dominant given their size. Zac Saddler played well and shaded Toff Sipley imo. The forward I like watching is Baldy Saunders. He really throws himself into the task. While he's not as big as his fellow forwards he has a huge heart and I hope his enthusiasm rubs off on the other players.
All-in-all, I was disappointed with the Workers given how many Manly players were in the team.

What position did Elliott play to score 3 tries? If that form continues you'd have to think he will be 1st in line for an injury or a jorge replacement

There is definitely something amiss at BWSE... they punch WELL below their weight.

This is very troubling from a MWSE nursery standpoint! Maybe most there don't see a pathway to FG and as a team are not applying themselves?

Something needs to change there because the reggies to FG gulf widens without commitment. Is it nice guy Alex or something else?

He played centre, alongside Funa. Sam Smith was originally selected so he is a mystery man to me; I've never seen him play.
Elliot is a handy player who rarely makes mistakes but he won't make an improvement to the current First Grade side, imo. I don't think there is a standout backup winger/centre in our squad atm. Miski is probably the best, but would he have been able to handle Vunavulu today? I'm not sure. I think you just have to give credit to Melbourne. They exploited Manly's weakness with deft kicks but up until that stage Manly was competing strongly.

Ben Turbot has some talent but I must admit from what I’ve seen( and it’s quite a bit) he is not in the same class as his brothers at his age . Talk of him playing first grade soon is pie in the sky stuff. Got a lot to learn but hopefully will get better as his body gets stronger.

Been saying it for a while. Ben is a long way off 1st grade. I have no doubt he will make it as he seems to have the commitment and dedication to succeed but certainly has a while to go yet
