What does he mean?

I may not understand this but....

Badel added: “I don’t believe Tevita won’t be at the Broncos next season. The Broncos are happy to honour his deal. But I know his manager is looking around the NRL and I wouldn’t be surprised if Tevita doesn’t move on. I still believe he won’t be at the Broncos next season.

So this reporter starts with "don't and won't", he doesn't think Tevita will not be at the Broncos= Tevita will at the Broncos and ends with he will not be at the Broncos.

He's an ironstine.

This is what is produced by the fox league content producers. Muppets like Rothfield and Hadley are trotted out every day to generate chatter, which is then quoted verbatim the next day on the fox website.

None of it is news, very little is factual. It is opinion and conjecture which amplifies itself in its own multimedia echo chamber.

There is even a newish genre of online article on the news.com.au website which takes a one or two line quote from the live commentary of a game, and inflates it into a written news item.

Penalty Broncos?

The Mick Jagger school of English

Similarly, the paul kelly line "never had no money" means the opposite of what he intends. To me this has always seemed a half-assed lazy way of establishing the class of the character in the song.

that way no matter what happens he can say he was right

The damage that professional commentators do to the language is UNBELIEVABLE, INCREDIBLE, ULTIMATE, and REALLY UNIQUE. I was going to say "sports commentators" but I've heard similar gobblegook come from the mouths of political commentators (and of course politicians but we don't expect high linguistic standards in parliament).

Just as a point of conversation: where do you think the linguistic line is between unbelievable and incredible. I think maybe unbelievable is universal while incredible is personal. No one can believe it vs I don't believe it.

I don't think I know what he doesn't not mean, I mean I'm not unclear on what he thinks he means but I think we're all a bit flummoxed on what he means if you know what I mean, I think...or not?
The only thing understood was flummoxed... thanks Rex

Ah, tis all cleared up...

The Courier Mail’s Peter Badel appeared on Fox League’s NRL 360 earlier in the week and said he would not be surprised if Pangai Jr was allowed to leave early.

“I wouldn’t be surprised if Tevita left,” he said.

“I still think the Broncos are amenable to that. They’re prepared to honour his deal but if he can get a better offer they’ll let him go.”
