With the Club being heavily penalised by the Salary Cap drama ,a very shallow roster and a number of injuries how can we expect to be competitive if players continue to be chosen not because of form but neccessity !

That's why the team that gets picked and trots out each week is basically the same. There is no pressure from within therefore players are not playing under any real expectations and even if they lose they basically know that they will probably be chosen again next week regardless of their performance

This is not an ideal situation but reality for Manly these days. From once a powerhouse to basically an also-ran making up the numbers with an occasional surprise win !

As a Manly supporter for 52 years who used to enjoy the game and watch the great sides of Manly in the past be so dominate to the point of being hated by the whole Rugby League fraternity because of our success to a frustrated and angry supporter who now sees a team that is only a shadow of is former self & a club that shows no ambition or pride on or off the field.

How the mighty have fallen and as I said " What do You Expect"

You may very well be right Delz.

If you are right regarding the pride and attitude we have the wrong sort of players In the playing group .

If you are wrong we just have an ordinary playing group.

I know that doesn’t help but the logic is hard to fault.

The more likely scenario is that we don’t have the staff or structure to harness the undoubted talent we have .

And that doesn’t help either. Sorry:)

I just find it disappointing when you compare to Newcastle the last few seasons. They may have won spoons and weren't the most skilled bunch of players, but they busted their backsides each week regardless. We all know what most of our players are capable of and are frustrated and disappointed that they don't seem to be putting it together on the field

I flew down from Hervey Bay, I was wrapped to enter the sacred ground. People plied me with beer ( it was like I was in a wonderful land where people gave away beer with no hope of getting any back). My terrible beard was widely admired and strange women gave me phone numbers that now seem disconnected......and I got to meet Max Krilich......I suppose a win would have been a bonus....

For me i dont expect blood from a stone. I expect that who we put out there perform to somewhere near there own ability. History has shown that teams with the lowest injury rates always do well, there is no denyng that whatsoever and manly have been hit hard. Not as hard as penrith ( who are currently dispelling the theory) but hard never the less

Ive seen teams down on troops and ability ,slow games down by looking for touch so often it dulls the game, but it improves there own chances. Ive seen teams speed up games, play the balls and keep the ball inplay for long periods against bigger more fancied sides to improve there chances in games. I see no real change in our attitude and in fact i believe our team probably has an inflated view of there own abilities, although body language suggests its starting to sink in

My expectations is that you use what you have as best you can and i dont think we are. We have vested in a pretty big pack in a changing competions, due to rule changes and refs and ive seen no gameplan or game management to support the cattle we run out each week.

We also vested in a very expensive half back which makes recruiting a specialised 6 difficult unless you detour money from other positions or depth, which is why we are where we are in some regards as far as depth is concerned

I know we have been penalised by the cap but last year we had stewart and matai on our books so technically we were far worse off last season roster wise. There would be very few teams in the league not contributing wages to other clubs with players they have moved on , so 300 k while important , certainly isnt staggering.

I have no problem with effort on the field and with the effort shown thus far , we should have more competition points than we currently do ,mainly because we are just a very dumb undisciplined footy team.

I dont need to win every week and every year. I see lots of good out of losses and poor seasons as it builds character and hunger , both for players and fans. How sweet was 2009 after being broke, the northern eagles and being in a financial position where we had to count the gate money of this weeks game, to afford to get to next weeks.

I get expectations are in the eye of the beholder, and it is just footy, but as manly fans its often hard to talk legitimately about our chances with other fans who joy in our demise calling it karma , or "**** manly" so we flock to silvertails to talk nitty gritty with other like minded, equally vested opinions , which are wide , varied , sometimes crazy but always have the same heartfelt agenda. The betterment of all things manly and to collectively spit on queensland and there famous stick and pick policy.

Go the blues, the maroons day is Saturday in new ziland

And the joy of getting Manly back when the Northern Eagles were dead and buried. The minor tragedies we're going through now don't even rate.

Exactly Moondoggy.

We’ve had our share of lean times. This is just one of them. We are very fortunate that our lean times are not even close to other teams.

Ive got lots of manly stuff, but my
Get ready
Manly is back t shirt
from those times is close to my favorite, probably for what it stood for and i remember how good i felt the first time i wore it. Really held my head high

I expect steady improvement not this roller coaster of a couple of good games and then the regression to the garbage we dished up again last week. We did this last year and at times in 2016. We should be a better drilled and disciplined side by now.

Yes mate, I feel your pain. I've been a Manly fan for 56 years and can't remember a team that displays such lethargy as this one. I remember Igor delivering concrete to us from the truck he used to own. They all had jobs as well as the footy and training. The fact that they get paid the same win lose or draw is the main reason they don't give a $hit what the result is and DCE is the one that's riding the benefit of displaying medeorocricy on the field. The only careers that get paid the same for turning up are weather forecasters and NRL players

Suck it up old timer, the ground rules have changed and Manly is doing well to still be in the game and kicking.
How many of our rivals have won more than us, 2 comps & 3 grand finals in the past 10 years?
We have to be smarter now, and in some ways we are doing that.
Those who know more about the game than I may be gnashing their teeth at our fate, but I still see plenty of positives and potential for success, in the short term!
Which is not to say we'll make this year's finals, but gee, if you don't have enough great memories over the last 52 years you are hard to please. Can't win em all*

*see Brisbane Broncos, financial powerhouse, nil premierships since 2006.

I bought a Northern Eagles thermos from Kmart back in the day. I was trying to come to terms with moving forward without Manly. Buying that thermos was the lowest point for me as a supporter.
Things are bad at the moment. This year absolutely sucks. But I do the believe the Manly culture will be back. We're in a deep hole but it won't last forever.

We have the team to be competitive, if only we had the coach that could instil the Manly Pride and Passion..!!!!!

We all get paid to do a job. To what extent we do that job usually revolves around culture and respect.

I agree with most peoples sentiments, I've seen it in workplaces before. The culture just goes rotten and for a myriad of reasons, you can never pin point the change. Nor can you when it begins to improve. But the key is change; and as long as the club embraces it and moves forward things won't improve...

Basically what I'm saying is all we can do is be patient and embrace the change- It can only get better

It will so long as Barrett's in charge. What we need is my Mum, she's so ****ing scary. I'd sort of forgotten, but when I went to see her she said get rid of that beard, it makes you look like a big girl? Anyway I went and saw a barber called Vince in Mona Vale and she said he did a good job.... I'm pretty sure the threat of a backhander from Mum would see the team kicking on.
