Excitement. Anticipation. Positivity.

And that's what gets dished up.

Poor handling. No structure again. Flat. And then to top it off Lewis brown comes on to break open the game.

Only positive I can take from that is.

Marty was huge when he kept hold of the ball.
Kelly looks to have promise.

Same old crap.

Api was poor in his main roll of dummy half.
Myles a waste of space.
Turbo ineffective due to lace of attacking structure.
Handling again really poor.
Refs were really poor. Sorry I made a mistake doesn't cut it.
Few players were invisible.

Only way is up in guess....

I am not about to join the whinge brigade but I do find it funny that Uate dropped a ball cold and almost cost us a try and Lewis Brown pretty much put us out of the game with that penalty.

It's just amusing because all off-season these two have been maligned and what do you know? Round 1 they serve up what the cynics expected all along.

Yeah, Lewis Brown played like he'd spent the offseason reading this forum. He was angry about something. Still ineffective, but ineffectively ANGRY.

I saw a lot of positives today. I enjoyed the defensive efforts shown by most of the team. Our centres look good. The communication and the combination between our halves was ok, and that will get better after a few more runs. Dummy half work is clearly going to be our biggest problem. I am not prepared to write us off based on that game. Go Manly. Looking forward to Souths next week.

After having time to take in today's performance and look at the numbers (I wrote this post on the 70th minute Mark after getting up at 5am to watch the game) I too can see some positives.

What I can't accept is Api starting hooker ( Cullen or Hastings please) or brown or myles. All rubbish at their desiginated roles.

We will get better no doubt. I will just wait to watch the game on record at a proper hour next time.

This is the sort of statement I find most amusing. It's not one game, this is the 25th NRL game under this coaching regime and for 25 games we've watched the same thing week in week out and yet the eternal optimist in us all has us eagerly anticipating something different next week or maybe the week after.

I thought there was a definition of madness that went something along the lines of doing the same thing over and over and over and expecting a different result every time.

Basic handling errors is what cost us. We never gave ourselves a chance to get into an attacking rhythm or build pressure.

Stop dropping the farking ball an we're a chance.
The 'handling errors' in the first half drained us. A lot of refs would have penalised Beau Scott for stripping the ball - 3 in the tackle and he is wrestling the arm with the ball, looked like strips to me.
Possession determined that match, and the Eels to their credit were good enough to take advantage.

You may know more about footy than I, but I saw plenty to like. We will have a good win next week based on what they showed yesterday.

I think you have just the one game on repeat Ralphie.

for 5 weeks last year when Lyon moved to 5/8 we looked good, went down by 2 to the cows away then won 4 in a row we saw a major change, then Lyon got injured. So we changed our lineup and recruited a solid 5/8.

Yesterday we showed other changes like defending 6 repeat sets, something we didn't see for the previous 24 games.

We also had 2 centres on the field for the first time in 25 games.

Its a new season mate. Its "ok" as a "supporter" of said team to look for the positives in your teams performance in their first game of a new season. Did I mention it was a new season? Anyway, as a Manly Sea Eagles tragic of the first order (Which i have been informed by many over years is actually the true definition of madness), I will continue to see the positives in their performance yesterday. It does worry me a bit that in doing so I find myself largely in agreement with Phil Goulds interpretation of the game. However, I will "support" my team in 2017 and beyond, maintaining my persistently determined, one-eyed, tunnel vision approach to what I am sure will be another awesome season by our boys in the maroon and white. Go Manly!!! Looking forward to Souths next week.

I recall hearing on the fox broadcast that the 2016 Manly were the best at completing sets or lowest unforced errors of all the teams. Can't remember which one though.

Something changed on Sunday.

Just watched the last 10 min of the game after epic angry post at 70 min which started the topic.
Lucky I didn't post after the match. WTF after Tommy's run down feild to get us into a good attacking position was that pass from API! Team stretched out ready to attack and he dishes up that pile of poo.
I mean really. A lot on here back him week in week out but that's not on. No way can this guy start as first choice. A hooker that can't pass is like a hooker that won't put out. JUST BLOODY WRONG.....
