Joey, writing on an unofficial Manly fans forum, said: 'Just last night to say he would love to stay Manly when he had an agreement already in place with Parra is a disgrace and with that (he's) lost all credibility as a man.'

Whiz1973 added: 'Bit gutted that he spoke about wanting to return to Manly. What a prat.'

'Hopefully DCE and Foran carve him a new one in 2014.'

Other fans wished Hopoate well at his new club but cast doubts over his ability to star at the Eels after two years out of the game.

Make sure we give them an extra spray when they come to read next time

Well looks like it is official with Des and Scott Penn being quoted

I'm surprised at how little I care about him leaving. Immense talent, but you can't pay that much for an outside back and expect to have a well balanced side. Brett Stewart wouldn't be on that, and we all know how superior he is at this point in time.

Yeah I really don't care too much, he was leaving anyway and there were a lot of questions about his ability to return, there was no way we were going to spend $500,000 on a risk.

He can always come back in 2016.

Agreed, no way that the club could afford to throw that kind of money at Hoppa given the current roster.

I'm actually suprised that Parra have thrown that kind of money Hoppa's way. Hayne, Sandow & to a lesser extent, Tonga, would all be on decently sized deals (Hayne & Sandow on bigger cash than Hop) & you would think that Loko will be due for a re-upping in two years time if he keeps going the way he has been. Risky move for Parra to pump so much of their cap into the backs, Fui is going to be their only elite forward & it's not like they have any great talent at hooker either.

It makes me think that Kearney may be looking at Hayne as a 5/8 down the track as well, as fullback is the most logical spot for Hoppa to go in that team. Loko & Tonga are both specialist centers, Hoppa can't play in the halves & he's on far too much dosh to waste out on the wing.

Don't get me wrong, Hoppa is obviously a phenomenal talent & any football club would be privilaged to have him, but it's a curious buy for Parra.

In 2 years time there will another new young face who wants to play for us for much less. Thanks for the memories Hoppa. But you aint worth $500K. Aren't you aware what happens to players who leave us for big money?

Someone on the parra forum stated that Hoppa's deal is actually for 4 years until the end of 2014 and is $500k a year including the two years he doesn't play, a job for Hoppa snr as well as signing his brother Jamile.

Surely Schubert needs to get out of his office and look at all aspects of this deal and the salary cap.

Manly is also fully aware of his dodgy hammy's and there are big doubts as to how he will play when he comes back that is if he comes back the NRL

I wish him well. The only thing that irks me is the fact he said he wanted to stay right before it was announced he was leaving. Hodkinson did the same thing to a lesser extent. Im sure crusher will find more young talent anyway, something Parra should be doing.

I just can't see him leaving for 2 years and coming back to the form he has shown for 2 years. Other players get injured and are out for periods of time and never make it back to previous form. And they have the advantage of still being connected with the game. Hoppa won't have that. He won't touch a footy or do any reasonable fitness for 2 years. Do youself a favor and read up about Mormons.

I Can't agree with this considering, Buhrer / Hodko / T-rex / Robinson all Came from Parra plus others escape me right now.

So Parra paid him for this year as well?

Disagree I think he is a big loss, winger centre full back, quality finisher
good under high ball, origin player, only young, local product, bothers to follow him through back up for snake and with the extra money coming in to the game with TV rights in 2 years thats what the good wingers might be getting who know, I thought he was giving us the final right of reply to offers when he comes back, Oh well cant keep em all but very disapointing
but im sure Des and Crusher will have a backup plan.

4 years eh. 2012, 2013 and 2014. Those out at parramatta seemingly cant count.
