Iconic halfback Arthur Summons dies, aged 84

Iconic halfback Arthur Summons has passed away, one half of the famous duo on the NRL trophy.

The aura around Arthur Summons shone so brightly because the former Western Suburbs and Test captain represented "not only everything about rugby league, but being Australian", according to ARL Commission chairman Peter V'landys.

Summons, whose image makes up half of the NRL Telstra Premiership trophy with Dragons Immortal Norm Provan, died on Saturday night, aged 84.

The photographer was John O'Grady, a real character who worked at the Sun Newspaper. I teamed with him on occasions when I was a journo at the paper in the 1970's.

Wonder if the controversy with the St George - Johnny King try [ no try ] will ever lose its significance in that G F . , or claims about the impartiality of the Ref . More inclined to think that it was a no try .
