Dear Toddy .... if you can persuade your daughters girlfriends to again watch a game of football .. can you ask them their opinion of the recent spate of eye gouging and headbutting that were'nt reallly headbutts or eye gouges ... and how they feel that it impacts on the integrity of the game ...

To listen to NRL officials defend the outragious light treatment of ... and verbal semantics surrounding McQuire and the Burgi has been sickening ....

Back in the day of tough old timers .. 3 things were considered dog acts ... eye gouging, headbutting and spitting on an oppenent ..... I was fortunate enough to witness one of the greatest sprays ever by Ray Ritchie after a game when one of our players eye gouged an oppenent .... "If you rip a blokes balls off I will personally nail them up on the dressing room wall, he shouted, but if I ever see any one of you bastards ever eye gouge a player you will be running oranges for the rest of your ****ing careers"

Agree Woodsie, lowest of the low acts. Didn't Les Boyd get a one year ban for eye gouging?

The problem here is there is a serial offender who is missing an eye himself...and has now done it twice already in 2019.....do the NRL need a bloke to lose an eye before acting on it ??

Back with the big 3 Woodsie mentioned as Dog Acts - 100% correct and with how soft the game is today the hypocrisy is ripe, as your own team would look down on these low acts back in the toughest old school days, yet these ppl running the game in 2019, carry on about the stupid stuff but let serious offences go ??
Almost like the bloke jay walking cops 10 years in a cell while the axe murderer gets a slap on the wrist.....pretty much sums up the clowns running the game today !!

Yep, given a choice between allowing the appropriate courts deal with criminal matters ... and stamping down on mongrel players on the field .... I know which I would prefer the NRL concentrate on .....

Wally Lewis got done for spitting and I'm also sure he got charged with biting when he was playing in the Queensland comp - yet they erect a statue of the guy and call him The King - go figure !!!

Biters tended to be considered wee Jessies and pitied rather than hated ..... it was always an embarassing thing to be charged with ... like slapping and scratching ....

The Double standards are breathtaking, McGuire is a serial grub and 25 years ago he would have been wiped out for crap like he gets away with. Interesting that the Liverpool kiss is back in vogue and players are starting to use it again. The issue is with the no punch rule that they have it has allowed serial nigglers to get away with crap, the in your face disrespect that we see now when a knock on happens and they celebrate like they won a premiership is a big issue for me, its a tough and emotional game and player errors that are celebrated only makes it more of a powder keg.

It’s the double standards that get me
The young Canberra player gets 5 weeks and deserved it
Maguire a fine and has done it before
Burgess head butt 1 week then Waddell gets 2
We all see the inconsistency ,but the ones in charge just spin it however they want

And they say the game is cleaner and corruption free ,thats out of sight ?
That Greenc*%t cat has alot to answer for
Little wonder why people just turn off , tune out ,and drop into another vibe.
You digin my grove man ?

That's always rubbed me the wrong way, celebrating an opposition player's mistake is pure bad sportsmanship to me.

There needs to be a concerted effort from all these forums for different clubs to start petitioning for Greenberg's and Beattie's dismissal. They need to be protesting to their respective clubs about the ongoing serious inconsistencies in the administration of the game and put an immediate stop to this ridiculous claim he has that regarding consistency being somehow over rated. It is everything Greenberg, otherwise the game is a joke. They need to go.

‘YOU PROBABLY WON’T PLAY FOOTBALL AGAIN’

I was reckless in the way I lived my life and played my footy. I was 21 years old and playing my third season in first grade with the Broncos. I thought I’d made it. Nothing was going to get in my way.

We were playing the Bulldogs at Suncorp Stadium. It was round eight in 2011 and there were only a few seconds left in the game.

I made a pretty standard tackle on Greg Eastwood and one of my teammates, Mitchell Dodds, came in to help out. His finger accidentally poked me in the eye. The pain was sharp and I dropped to the ground. I couldn’t see out of my left eye.

I didn’t think all that much of it at first. They’d treat the injury, my vision would return and I’d be back out on the field in a week, maybe two.

But the specialist looked worried and ordered me straight to the surgeon. They performed an operation the next day.

My iris had collapsed and my retina had detached. The operation involved sticking a gas into my eyeball that kind of welds the eye. The gas bubble in your eyeball pushes your retina down to re-stick it.

When Albert Aralar, the eye specialist, told me what had happened after the operation, it didn’t really sink in. I was just asking, ‘When can I play footy again?’ Albert’s response was, ‘No, you probably won’t be able to play football again.’

Wally O’Connell kept his blind eye secret from the nswrl because he thought they wouldn’t let him risk the other one.

Also when did gouging cease to be a minimum 6 month suspension? Was it around the time shoulder charges got banned? What is this game they call the nrl?

Wow, I never knew that! I'm surprised he's still allowed to play a contact sport at the top level & have to admit it's quite amazing that he's managed to adapt to playing at that level with limited vision.

Agreed that someone who has lost an eye should know better than to deliberately gouge opposition players' eyes, very much a dog act.
