Those consolation fifth tackle penalties!!!

One thing that is really annoying me and I expect thousands of others is the referees giving consolation fifth tackle penalties to teams after the last play has finished. I think its pretty pathetic that the attacking team gets rewarded with another set of six after the defensive team has done a fair job in keeping them out. Fair enough if it is an obvious penalty that's fine but we are seeing in every game this now happen and it more often than not leads to undeserved tries for teams who have run out of ideas, that happened to us twice in the first 25 minutes last weekend and I saw the Drizzle get a couple after they led 30-0.

I hate the inconsistency from the officials, some of the decisions made of late have been rank!! Come on Greenturd , please think about having some accountability for the referees as its so frustrating that if you speak out you are immediately condemned by the NRL.

I'm with you Sheridan.
If the theory of "swings and roundabouts" really does exist, we are due a flood of these in the next few weeks because, frankly, we've been copping it royally of late.

I hate those penaltys when whoever trys to get a quick play the ball succeeds but falls down in the process. But earns a penalty anyway.. im like . He got the play the ball his team still has the ball, why blow a freaken penalty ????

I suspect because his team aren't wearing Manly jumpers

A very good thread .
I'm sure if some refs have a thing against Manly or for that matter any other team they can conjure up a penalty from a minute of infringements.
There should be more scrutiny and accountability around refs blowing fifth tackle penalties.
I definately isn't a level playing when this happens and of late we have been on the receiving end.
The dumb comment from Tapau doesn't help

Very much agree. I've been thinking about this, and really, every tackle later in the set that a penalty is rewarded, it becomes that much more of a reward. first tackle penalty is an extra tackle plus 20 metres. Fifth tackle penalty is an extra five tackles plus metres. The system just isn't fair, and the inconsistencies are staggering. Simple hand-on-the-ball penalty after 11 consecutive tackles when you're madly defending your line cos there was a minor infringement six tackles earlier? Get stuffed, really?

Refereeing inconsistency this season is the worst I can remember. Refereeing standards have nowhere near kept pace with the advances in player fitness, speed of the game etc, and the highly dubious decisions coming out of the bunker is a failure of a good concept.

Refereeing decides or influence FAR too many results.

It's a disgrace to our great game.

Its like the penalty in the 3rd set against the Tigers. Nobody was offside and it was called inside the 10 by the assistant ref who was 20mtrs away from where the 'offence' took place.

You even saw Ben Cummins (who was assistant at the time and gave the penalty), take a little sideways glance at the head ref as if to say he missed the cue for penalty.
