First Grader
I saw this image on Facebook and it reminded me of a time when the Sheridan Stand at the SCG was our time and our special place.

For me the fondest memories are the 1978 finals series where our fans packed out the Sheridan stand and made it our place. This continued until the demolition of the stand in 1985.

What an atmosphere!!

Lyall Roberts, the Manly cheer squad leaders would bellow out the letters, the variety of songs we sung like "Super Max" at every scrum, "Who's Australia's number 1 who plays for the best team, G R A H A M E A D I E, repeat repeat, the famous Parra are Whingers!!

On that grand final day I was in year 6 at Avalon public school, I remember that Tuesday afternoon, we all stayed back to watch the game on TV and by halftime the game was pretty much wrapped up. I had the privilege to see the stirring comebacks in the knock out finals against the Whingers and the character the team showed to overcome them, then Wests who were fresh as daisies in the preliminary final and then to overcome a rested Sharks team in another draw then triumph in the replay for me will always be our greatest team and win.

Wonderful days for those of us lucky to be there!

Never missed a game
Slept outside the ground with 100’s of others for the GF
WAGGED school for the replay
The guy next to me won 100 dollars by asking another
Are you from 2SM

Real Deal

Reserve Grader
Was in the Sheridan Stand throughout the 78 Semis (but not the replay or GF). Camped out in front of the gates for the GF. Got punched out by a much older St George fan who pushed in front for the reserve grade GF (I was 14). Other St George supporters redeemed themselves in the early morning when there was a beer can fight. They let me and my mate hide under their "Lord Ted Goodwin Stand" vinyl sign providing us with safety from the then tin cans flying.

I can still remember a whole BBQ
chicken flying through the air looking like the old bird still wanted to flap its wings. I didn't attend another GF till 2007 and 2008. General admission didn't cut it for me.

Lined up at the gates behind the Noble Stand for the '82 and '83 GFs at about 4am. Someone set fire to the gates at one stage , Firefighters trying to get down that narrow lane. Cops hauling piss heads out. Cans flying in all directions in and outside the ground. Those were the days.
