For me he is a natural five eighth. He needs the ball in his hands as often as possible. He was playing outside Foran most of the game. That's a five eighth role, because Foran was playing more like a half back directing play and was passing out to Schuster who needs to be there to set up his outside support.

I know he plays second row well, but I don't think he's anywhere as effective as when he has space to move. As well he is required as a forward to tackle far more and that blunts his energy. For now its not something that will change because Foran is here and Des wants him at 5/8. And Foran is playing very well. Its not about Foran He's going great guns. Its just Schuster needs to be outside of the forward area especially in defence where he is doing a lot of tackling (and he rarely misses a tackle). He will in time equal Turbo in his worth to the team, but we don't want to burn him out doing grunt work..

However his winger had plenty of time to see him setting up the play and should have been running onto the pass, the pass was good and would have created something from nothing

That was because Parker is not a winger and was even left standing a couple of times by his opposing winger. He's a good defensive centre and hopefully he wont have to play wingman again.

However players need to be ready for Schuster, just as they were with Cliffy. Players of this ilk do what seem the impossible and its up to other players to be prepared. And we also have to expect that sometimes it doesn't come off. But his no look passes don't just deceive the opposition, they cut down his passing time, because he doesn't have to turn to look at where he's passing. That very brief extra time becomes crucial in creating a break.

Don't worry bear with turbo back those passes will stick because he knows when josh has the ball its always live ofcourse they aren't all going to come off but who cares its easy to see whoever is next to him they play much better and that's because josh is always trying to get them involved. Can't wait till he's starting 5/8

You could blame it more on Parker’s read cutting back inside too. If he sticks to his wing it would’ve been a great ball

No disrespect to Parker. Always gives his best. He's just not a wing man and I was rather surprised Des put him there. Sloane left him standing a couple of times. Just doesn't have the pace and I suspect positionally he's struggling a little with an unfamiliar position. Otherwise tried hard during the game and that was a great try off Foran.

No disrespect to gift but he was not near the damaging ball runner Schu is. Schu is a unit size wise as well as ball playing ability. We will need $$ on the cap when it comes time to upgrade Schu and Guac as they will have a lot of teams coming for them.
Hopefully by then DCE drops his contract to 700-800k and lets 250each go to Schu and Shmole.

I recall reading or listening to Beaver say the exact same thing about Cliffy. He said you had to ALWAYS expect the ball when running near Cliffy, just because you didn't think he could get it to you didn't mean he couldn't. If he fooled you he was fooling the defence too.

100% agree. A wingers job is to follow the ball runner and be ready to run onto a pass. Parker did not do that. Garrick and Saab would have swallowed that pass and scored.

...............

Schuster also joked that Hasler was keeping a close eye on the players in the team’s hub on the Sunshine Coast.

“I think I’ve seen him at 3am walking around looking in our windows to see if we’re awake…he’s a bit of a freak,’’ said a laughing Schuster.

“I’ll definitely be locking my windows.”

Yep, hence why I said 2.0 - the upgraded version.

13 would be the best Pos for him as he can pop up where ever he chooses and would give the halves another dimension.

Agree about the upgrades and this is why the club has to release blokes like AFB and eventually Taupau - to better spend the cap and sign more value for money.
13 requires more energy to be expended in defence. We are better off with Shoe on the edge, we don't need one of our best finesse players burning himself out in defence.

Yeah, I think you have nailed it.

I can but repeat my post from the following thread

"Has Schuster actually indicated what his preferred position is or perhaps he doesn't really care? His one game this year at 5/8 was a eye opener for sure. His ball skills are sublime, seems this aspect is maximised at 5/8 and somewhat limited when in the 2nd row....."

I'm for the maximise the talent option.

The maximise the talent option is having Shoe, Foz, and DCE on the field at the same time. For now Foz + Shoe > Shoe + next best backrower (likely Siro or Jetski).

He said in that interview he rather play 5/8 but if he has to he doesn't mind filling in at second row.

Personally I think he’s wasted in the backrow limited on an edge.

Would prefer him either at 5/8 or in a roaming 13 role.

Let Jake continue to do his work in the middle.
With the players we have atm he can only play second row. Des can't waste jake as a prop as we have plenty of props already. Early ball from foz and its like he's playing 5/8 anyway especially if turbo's involved just like josh was giving haumole early ball against the dragons.

Always thought he'd be better for Manly at 5/8...
Now not so sure. Just as long as he plays!

Love the way he hypnotises the defender & by the time he throws a no look pass the defender is asleep.

Sure, he threw one shocker last night on the first @ but that's the price you pay for his brilliance. Exciting to see just how good he may become.
After watching the replay a few times looks to me he hypnotized Parker with the shocker pass .

Edge attack specialist agree but the no look passes will eventually catch up on him I reckon. There was one thrown i think to parker in the 2nd half if he looks left parker scores.
Parker's reaction and speed needs to improve but he is doing a great job now to hold out Walker and Suli .
