facts of last night
-warriors were gunning for 5 straight losses
-warriors had nothing to play for
-we had everything to play for
-warriors were atrocious in the second half.commentators were laughing at their incompetence.
-we were playing at brookie in front of a big vocal crowd
-next week will make it 9 from 10 losses to finish season
facts of season
-we have had a reasonable run with injuries.only topliner injured for long period was watmough.souths, dogs, raiders, knights were decimated for a lot of year.raiders will play with 14 firstgraders out next week and will start favourites against us even if they have nothing tp play for.that is an indictment.
-we have played 4 sides in the last two months who had nothing except pride to play for-bunnies,knights,warriors,penrith(only our incompetence has given panthersa sniff at the 8).we have lost all 4.
-we competed with pride for the first 2 months.we were limited but played with heart.so it can be done but it is not being done.
our club has a deepseated attitude problem IMO.players do not have pride in their jumper every week.the fact that we embrace abject mediocrity(king, monaghan, randall etc) is merely symptomatic of a wider malaise.WHERE HAS THE MANLY SPIRIT GONE.
NEW PLAYERS will not solve this problem on their own.just ask the bunnies and the old easts.we need to act quickly and professionally now -8 years of **** is enough.
1.give the coach unfettered and total control over football matters.my mail is their is too much well meaning but willy nilly advice coming from all quarters.the buck stops with the coach.let him control his destiny.
2.get rid of property developers involving themselves in football decisions.
3.get rid of "jobs for the boys"e.g. underperforming ex-tiger defensive coaches.enough is enough.
4.make management decisions FINAL and not subject to trial by MEDIA AND ALL THE PETITION SIGNING VILLAGE IDIOTS.if they are bad decisions they can be made to pay via the AGM.
5.make players realise that there are CONSEQUENCES for failure to turn up consistently, despite the fact that the replacements may not have equal natural ability.reward a player for spirit.reputations should mean nothing.there must be a penalty for some of these disgraces in the last 2 years and the players must know it.
6.finally reward the huge crowds that have turned up this year with the team they want-not necessarily a winning team but a team that plays to their ability and wears the maroon and white with pride.fans are not idiots, they admire courage just as much as a win and will stick when they see that in their team.
in a nutshell-PROFESSIONALISM AND PRIDE.
BROKEN EAGLE.
