Quite a good article. Interesting read and a bit of inside info regarding the dogs salary cap problems.

Fifty games? Easy.

As a young kid with a bit of talent, I didn’t really consider 50 NRL games to be that big a milestone. My brother, Sam, played more than 250 games for the Roosters and Bulldogs. That was the mark for me. Fifty was just a couple of good seasons.

I shake my head now at how I used to think.

Fascinating. It paints DESpicable in a bad light; a scheming pr*ck who signed Perrett for four years then wouldn't play him, but wouldn't tell him to his face. We never want DESpicable back, surely!
It also questions the training methods of Manly. Pushing him in the heat to a near death episode. I trust the Manly fitness gurus have learnt a lesson from this.
I don't know Lloyd but I had some business dealings with his brother Sam who was a delightful family man and very smart. I'm sure Lloyd has similar attributes.
Wouldn't it be great if he fulfilled his footballing promise and became a permanent fixture in our top 17?
It's easy for we keyboard warriors to criticise players. Pity we don't have more insight, like this article, into what they are going through.

Good story and presume that the Dogs are still paying part of his freight . Not a starting prop at the moment but fit and on his game and with a selective off load , can certainly offer some value for Manly

Much like when the news broke about Foran - we know very very little of what goes on with these guys

There does seem to be a difference in that Perrett has made a real effort to help himself and get some stability and consistency in his life and footy where as this has really not applied in Foz's case , at least in some previous times

Thanks for that @globaleagle
Great informative piece.

No problemo.

The players tribune (.com) does some awesome stuff as well. I think maybe the above site has tried to do the same.

Nice to read about players without the clickbait 'journos' trying to put some dramatic spin on things.

Brilliant article. Gives some real insight into Lloyd and what he has gone through to get where he is today. He comes across as a very articulate person rather than the stereotypical NRL player.

I can relate to the heat stroke that he had. A number of years ago I pushed myself too hard on a very hot day. Long story short but I was rushed to hospital and also thought I was going to die. Took me a long time to recover and I still suffer from it now. Before doing and during any strenuous exercise I need to over hydrate myself and take panadol or else I over heat and can get bad headaches.

Also found this nice article on the same site about Jorge where he says that:

"Playing for the Manly Sea Eagles isn’t my only job.

I’m also the primary carer for the person who has cared for me most in the world.

My mum, Sandi, suffered two strokes at back end of 2008 and had another in October last year. Those episodes left her disabled. I feel it’s my responsibility to do whatever I can to make her life as comfortable as possible."

Again no one knew what he was going through (not what he had done)

Before it broke who knew about his gambling etc?

I have no doubt this is true. This happened to someone very close to me while Des has here. Dropped from first grade, then could not find out why. Made an appointment, was there early, the scheduled time came and went, waited for a further 4 hrs (I **** you not) then got the ****s and left. Grub of a human.

Storm after SOO and we off the bye...+13 Manly for sure.

He mentioned he had 25% higher core body temperature than most people, so it seems this is not very common. You can't blame Manly, or the fitness guru's for this.

But then the question is, was his base core temperature higher prior to him getting heat stroke or has it increased as a result of him getting heat stroke? It's quite possible that it could be as a result of heat stroke. Prior to me getting heat stroke a number of years ago, I had never had any issues with getting over-heated if I over-exerted myself. But now whenever I do any strenuous activities then my body does not cope well and if I am not careful then I over-heat very easily.

In general I agree with your comments ... up until he said he had behaved strangely and run off course and collapsed once before being looked at by a "physio" who after looking at him sent him back on his merry way .....

I know that not all the details are necessarily given a retelling .... and I only have my humble Surf life saving 1st aid but we are trained to recognise and initially treat both hypothermia and hyperthermia .....

For a "physio" not to have picked up on his condition or been more concerned is a worry ....

You never know what sh^t players (or people) have to endure.
Life was not meant to be easy as the saying goes . Who doesn't go through their trials and tribulations . Look at the poor cnts that are being bombed in Syria 24/7 and the other poor cnts that are born in famine countries that have flies and vultures circling them .
Lets put things in perspective here .
