The Inglis retirement has thrown a real spanned in the works for us...the Bunnies now have coin for a centre and their coach has leverage. He either gets the one we want or takes the player in front of the one we want, thus freeing up a spot at Donkeys.

You’re probably spot on. If Roberts ends up at Souths, I can’t see Brisbane losing Staggs as well.

We always get screwed by the NRL one way or another.

Presuming we could only buy one of Clinton Gutherson or Will Hopoate and plug them straight into our current side, which would people go for? Our forwards are fine so if we could realistically afford both obviously we’d mostly love for that to happen but if only one is affordable I think Hoppa’s additon may be the more neccessary. All depends on how Elgey goes. Once again this is all a little hypothetical (never know either player may not even be on manly’s radar)

If can afford both
1. Turbo
2. Taufua
3. W. Hopoate
4. New/Elliott/Suli/Upgraded Player
5. Garrick
6. C. Gutherson
7. Cherry-Evans
9. Fainu
14. Koroisau
If Garrick keeps improving and injuries are fine this backline could make us a premiership threat in 2020

The only relationship that the tough people have that make the tough decisions for their club is a relationship with their club

No one is bigger than the club . The club comes first

If you have it any other way the club comes last

You’d have to be fairly confident of retaining a starting role and being a bit more valued at manly though. Our backs aren’t necessarily setting the world on fire

No offense to Elliot but I can't see him being a starting centre in 2020.

I’m a massive Gutho fan and would love him back, but we will have to pay big bucks now. What position would he be coming back to play? 5/8? Center? The massive benefit of having him at center is he can fill in for tommy when he is injured/rep duties which is sadly going to be often.

Me t
A ton of baggage.. ie see recent pic how he parties - and after every time hes tackled he hobbles off like an old man. I hope its not James.
Def dont want him ,but seems like Siebold dont want him either.

I agree. But rather than add in more hypotheticals I thought id just try put either player into our current side, to try see which would be the better signing/provide best balance to our team.

turbo is a victim of his own versitility, sure teddy played wing in the early years but turbo has proved he can play fullback, wing or centre on the big stage so if they are both selected then we all know who the fullback will be

Just like Dale Shearer was back in the day. Andrew Ettingshausen as well. Both regarded fullback as their favourite and best position, but in rep footy it wasn't until specialist fullbacks Gary Belcher and Garry Jack retired that either got the chance to play fullback in Origin and Test football. Both spent the majority of their early years in Origin and Tests playing either wing or centre simply because they could and were too good to leave out.

Turbo is exactly the same. He is arguably the best fullback not only in the NRL, but in rugby league right now (when not injured), but because Tedesco is more a specialist fullback while Tom has shown that he is equally adept at centre or wing, Tedesco will, when fit, available and in form, always be selected in the NSW and Kangaroos #1 jumpers ahead of Tom. Tommy will only ever really play fullback in rep footy when Tedesco is either injured, suspended (not likely, he's a fairly clean player) or he retires from that level.

When it all boils down to it though, I don't think Tom really cares what position he plays in rep footy, so long as he gets to play.

I still think if we got Gutho for $500,000-$600,000 he would be totally worth it. He could take a permanent centre spot and then play fullback or 5/8 as needed when injuries arise.

Parra are lowballing him, I doubt any other club wants to pay him what he thinks he's worth, and we are his junior club. We would only need to beat Parramatta's offer by a few grand to entice him back, in my opinion. I don't think playing fullback is going to be a deal breaker.
