Probably already been posted but hey, good news is hard to come by this year so.....

Kelepi Tanginoa was ruled out for the NRL season in round four, but the Manly player has defied the odds to recover from his ACL injury and return to the field.

Kelepi Tanginoa should be in Manly's casualty ward preparing for the 2019 season after he was diagnosed with an anterior cruciate ligament injury earlier this year.

But instead and against all the odds, the bench forward will play his second game in a row on return for the Sea Eagles on Saturday night against the Storm at Lottoland.

Tanginoa went down in Manly's round-four win over Canberra, with initial diagnosis showing both medial and ACL damage.

But miraculously, the usually season-ending ACL problem mended itself within weeks.

"The injury that we treated first was the most severe one, that was the MCL," Manly's head of performance Dan Ferris said.

"You have to heal the MCL before you have the ACL surgery, that's just the protocol if you do both.

"So we braced him for six weeks and that was just enough to get that ACL surgery. And when he gets a scan and checks it all, the ACL's healed and it was just one of those lucky things."

Tanginoa threatened to be one of the Sea Eagles' brightest stars this year before his injury and the dramas that followed.

A prop who debuted for Parramatta at aged 19 in 2013, the now 24-year-old struggled to get a consistent run in first grade at both the Eels and North Queensland before shifting to Manly midway through last year.

But he made a point in the pre-season by outlifting arguably the game's strongest man in Martin Taupau at the Sea Eagles, before impressing as a real power runner off the bench.

He was then equally impressive in his return before Manly's bye in their shock win over Penrith, getting through 35 minutes on return unscathed without coming back through reserve grade.

"We could see it in the off-season, we got Kelepi midway through last year and he got a full off-season with us," Ferris said.

"He was lifting the most weight in our gym by far. He put his foot down from November 1 and went all the way through.

"We were really hoping for a big year and it was really unfortunate, we were all devastated by that injury.

"But we're all ecstatic about the way he's come back."

He started this year well and the injury came at a time when he was just starting to warm into his role and have an impact. Here's hoping he can see out the year and really develop his game coming off the bench. I think he has shown that he can offer us something going forward, has that Lolo build (Block of Units) and a little bit of footwork to go with it. A good finish to the year should see him earn an extension to his contract.

Certainly has the mobility and power to be a real asset for the team and if he can also maintain a good endurance and defensive input, definitely worth trying to retain .

Start mapping his DNA, and find out if he is some sort of super human.

Screw calfs blood, Tanginoa blood may be the next big thing. @:D

Another inspirational story that shows us how people respond through adversity
Adversity shows what every one of us is really and truly is made of
Some break away into their excuses and end up no where
and others like Kelepi find ways to break records

Kelepi's game has really come on. One area that he can potentially improve on is his goal line defence - he got caught out last week and in a few of our earlier games particularly with players out of dummy half (but hey the whole team could improve in regard to this!).

Loads of potential and I'm glad to see we've extended him - although we can't announce anything, similar to any extension with Api etc due to the cap issues.

What I like here - is the fact he is a player who is determined to get onto the field.
Most players with this injury would be back the following season.
This stands out as a winning Attitude - will be rewarded with a solid finish, rather than an onlooker.

That and probably a contract extension too. In any case we need players back as quick as we can

The injury was misdiagnosed - ruptured ACLs don't heal themselves, it was just a strain. The MCL tear recovery is impressive though

Either an extension or the Eels will try and buy him back.
Eagles take them from the scrap heap to first grade, Eels then buy them and coach them back to the scrap heap

He looked really good early in the season.
