Apparently today is exactly 70 years since the mighty Manly Warringah Sea Eagles ran out for their first ever match in first grade. There's an article on the club's site. A great milestone.

Thought you were saying it's your 70th b'day mate ;)

Here's the link - good read

I particularly like this bit

Manly Warringah recorded their first premiership victory on May 31 in round eight, a 15-7 win over Parramatta Eels at Brookvale Oval. Wingers Johnny Bliss and Gordon Willoughby scored two tries each in the five tries to one win in front of a crowd of 3,200.

Ironically, 69 years later, the Sea Eagles play Parramatta at Brookvale Oval in round seven of the Telstra Premiership this Thursday night. Will history repeat itself with a Sea Eagles win? The Sea Eagles will wear their Heritage Jersey for the game.

Now there's an omen if I've ever seen one. (I expect the crowd will be closer to 13,200 though.) Happy birthday to us, and what a great present the flogging of the Eels will be.

....Having lost their first five matches, the Sea Eagles sacked coach Harold Johnson, replacing him with former Eastern Suburbs international forward Ray Stehr.....

Hey! I guess it is a results based business!!
Was Rick Penn's old man in charge back then? :p

Lost our first ever match to Wests 13-15 I believe. Made up for it 4 years later by smashing the very same club 37-9 in our first ever finals match.

One of the sentences starts with "ironically" so zorba wrote that. He usually uses it instead of "coincidentally" or "interestingly"
