Ryan

Journey Man
I know there will be a fair bit of push back on this one, but he has been released by The Panthers today for disciplinary problems.

I would love to see him put under the wings of players like Kite, Cuthbertson, Mauro & Afamasaga (players who have high values and morals).

Rugby League is about opportunity. It's about giving someone a chance, when the chips are down.

This kid was being touted by The Dragons as their next big 5/8 before he had a go at Anasta on the field.

I have 100% faith in Des, our environment and our community to nurse him through this rough period, and selfishly, we would have a specialist 5/8.

Like I said, there will be a lot of abrupt responses below, but given a chance, an opportunity and a little bit of a duty of care, I think he could fulfill that potential everyone was saying he had.

I also hear that he wasn't treated at all well after promises were made at The Panthers, and things kind of came off the rails from that point.

Give him a shot at a minimal contract !! We'd at least have a NSW Cup 5/8, and not have to play Nick Bradley there.

He's also very very young, so Des, Crusher, Toovs and co. still could groom him into what they need.

Guys?

I also mean this in a serious way - it would be nice to see some aboriginal talent in our team. They are dead set athletes when it comes to League (Thurston / Bowen / Inglis etc etc).

Can't agree with you on this one mate.

Our "no dickhead" policy will exclude him immediately. If we target him, why didnt we target the likes of Sione Faumuina, Neville Costigan etc? Principle is principle, and he has no place at Manly IMO.

I thought that as well, but if we were really going on principle, what about Matai and that chick at Manly, or Matai and that dude at the Sands?

I just think we should give a kid a shot. Look at Sargent. He was given an opportunity, and played a really good year @ The Knights after that.

I think he's had a bad injury this year which has kept him out though.

There's a fair difference between controlling idiots currently under contract and making sure you dont recruit em :p lol. With hindsight, who really knows if we would have signed Matai if he did that before we signed him - who really knows? But what is fact is that he committed the acts as a Sea Eagle, so its hard to really make a comparison when it comes to principles behind our recruitment.

I'd much rather spend money on Liam Foran as opposed to Richie Williams - as thats saying something  ;)

Ryan, you are dead against signing Chris Bailey who has been performing in the NRL this season, because he can only get a run through injury, and you are heavily promoting someone who can't get a run in the halves at Penrith who have been playing Luke Lewis there at times ! Doesn't make sense

Wouldn't be 100% against signing him, but he would be behind Barrett, Bailey and Lewis on my list

If it was on the minimum wage I would not complain.  He is a d!ckhead but I guess if it did not work out we could just sack the bum.  However I never saw much from him on the field anyway and would rather sign Bailey.

Anyone who lists their interests as "kicking it with the boys" has tool written all over them.

Besides he isn't that good a player, he couldn't hold down a spot at Saints when they are struggling for halves and he can't even get a start at Penrith where, as Kiwi points out, Luke Lewis is playing halfback FFS. I think Richie's problem is that he believed the hype, he should've listened to Public Enemy.

I'd rather see money spent on someone who we know has the application to make it to grade. I see Canberra are rumoured to be chasing Barrett and may release Campese, I'd rather spend money on him.

I'd rather NBQ than Williams.  Williams is a cat with no ticker.

No way we should get him. Three weeks in a row in the bin for backchat. What's wrong with him?
