Resting DCE and Turbo

I mentioned it in the game day thread but it was great to see des really utilise the bench effectively last night. Giving all players decent minutes (maybe Lawton injury forced his hand) but kudos regardless.
Also sipley starting was a nice change up

Agreed - he shouldn't be afraid to play guys like Cust and De Luis. I was critical after the Canberra game of not using those guys enough but that changed last night.

While it be nice to see a full-strength team run out it was better to rest these players.
We have to rely on results to go our way to make the top four.
We are comfortably in the eight and it would take a disaster to drop out of it.

Finishing anywhere from fifth to eighth will make no difference now if the games are going to be played in Queensland.
We would be the current form team of those teams.

Des plays the long game, took a bit of chance resting DCE but worked out well
He also took a chance by not starting Con from the outset.
Why does he make selections so complicated? DCE out means Con in. Simple. Con is a halfback, the only backup halfback we have. But no, he mucks around with playing The Shoe at half, then Walker comes on and plays his usual rocks-or-diamonds brand of footy... and we get to halftime training.
As soon as Con comes on our team clicks into gear.
And while on selections, why did he nominate Turbo as fullback when everyone except the gullible general media knew he wouldn't be playing? Does DESpicable really think he is the cleverest person in the NRL by playing these games?

Maybe he does it just to annoy you TW 🤔

Des has never liked TLT. He does it as an FU to the fact he has to name a team so far out from the game. If they want it so early he can't be sure who will play so he doesn't bother being particularly accurate. Be nice if he considered it a service to the Fans and the media who are integral to him earning as much as he does but unfortunately he just sees it as an imposition.

The value of resting key players always pays dividends. The Drizzle benefitted from that last season. Their spine pretty much got a rest in the last 8 weeks and they looked the fittest and strongest team in the finals.

Thankfully, Des chose to rest Turbo and Chez. They will now be fresh for our surge toward the finals. Great coaching from the old fox.
Don't think it's been mentioned elsewhere but does anyone think Des held back Schu's return a little longer to keep him fresh knowing he wouldn't be playing DCE in last night's game?
Would explain the fog around Schu's recovery and return.

if DCE has niggling injuries, I'd be inclined to give him another week off against the Tiges
He has had a groin injury he has been carrying all year, will be having surgery apparently this off season. Not sure what it is, resting probably doesn't help much in that particular case by the sound of it but if he has other niggles then yes, a good idea to keep him fresh.
