First Grader
Winterstein - 7/10
Defensively been great on the edge bar 1-2 games, runs hard lines without creating huge attacking threat, exceeded expectation all round.
Has gained size to his frame in 2017 and its paying off.

Lane - 5.5/10
Limited game time but can punch thru the line..can offload, defence is questionable imo.

Green - 7/10
Played his part perfectly...adds direction, gives DCE time, kicking and defence only average.
Not a match winner - but allows DCE/ Turbo and Walker to be.

Cullen - 5.5/10
Again limited time, but great energy and has the goods as a handy utility backup.

Uate - 8/10
Powerful, fast and can find that tryline...been safe in the air and his kick-start to sets with Jorge, has been a massive part of Manly's improving performances.

Sirro - 6/10
Could be a higher score, but feel comes in and out of games and has far more untapped potential imo....more grunt and use of that big frame would be great.

Perrett - 7.5/10
Seems a big score with little game time, but has really racked up massive carries and offloads changing momentum, when available - if he gets crankier - the rating could be way up there.

Hastings - 7/10
Very sharp off the bench, crisp passing and energy levels and talk off the ball are top shelf.
Will be long term - the best buy imo.

Kelly - 7/10
Exceptional rookie season - has evasion and a genuine footballer....not super fast, but explosively very quick, which is all required for a line break...safe and reliable and my favourite thing - gets in and does the tough, ugly hit ups like a veteran in season 1.

J. Wright - 6/10
Solid and reliable, shows good utility value. Not signed as a superstar, but has stepped up well and personally uninspired when I heard he joined....more confident now.

Kennedy - 5/10
Old school defensive backrower who defends well, but lacks any punch in attack....others preferred imo.

I think Blake Green deserves an 8 or 9...not because he has blown anyone away but he has been a super foil for DCE and I think his kicking game has been superb.

Also if you are giving a guy like Kelly a 7 then Perrett can't be a 7.5 because he has only played the equivalent of half a game this year.

We've been lucky with Uate stepping up haven't we!

To be fair, a few of them should be N/A because they haven't had enough or even any time in first grade.

Kelly is probably a 6.5 - he's been good but not exceptional which I wouldn't expect yet.
Green has probably been a 6. Good but not great - serviceable (which is all we really needed). I'm not crediting him with DCE's better form - I think that's more the work of what our forwards are doing.
Uate - 8.5 Star recruit so far. Great running and it's been nice having a winger take high balls. Could easily be playing SOO. Like a safer Jorge.
Sirro - 5. Average so far. Get the odd flash but not enough to rate him higher.
Lane - 4. Is where he should be at the moment (reggies)
Perrett - 5 - not a great body of work to judge him off
Hastings - 6. Good when given time but hasn't had much

As a Kelly fan he deserves a solid 7 - yes played far more games than Perritt and all round could be higher - just opinion and knew there would be uproar with judgement on a bloke playing 10 games compared to 3-5 games, just think Perrett has impacted slightly more - which again is hard to judge due to position - just giving my opinion and that's it.
Green's biggest asset is his ability to give the match winners time and space - done it well too, but think his kicking at times good and a few games zero repeat sets and poor options...again opinion, but to get a 9 would need to be far more an attacking threat..sticking with 7.

Rates are based on land value among other things. If you care to let me know the land value of the recruits, then I'd be happy to apply a rating algorithm to them and then post here.

Lane 0.5 points behind Siro....
As I stated - Sirro would have more if there was more involvement and added aggression...Personally think a bit of Lane and in limited time has shown a genuine attacking threat on the edge....again understand the fact judging players off only 1-2 games could well be in the N/A basket...just sharing my opinion of ratings in 2017.

Greens not a rating of 6. We and DCE wouldn't have gone as far as we have this year without him. Last year when our forwards dominated Walker was outplaying him in the halves. DCE isn't a runner of a team. I would go as far to say that if we had Green or DCE by themselves we would be a better chance of winning the gf with Green running the show.

Wait are you saying Walker at 5/8 was better than DCE last year..?

Walker was running over everyone crabbing (which he still does some times) and would stifle our attack, especially in the opposition 20.

Green is a solid 5/8 but he's not top 5. That doesn't mean he's not good for us because he's what we need. But I'll rate him according to the play of 5/8's across the league.

As an indication of how I'd rate guys, DCE vs Dogs was a 10. DCE vs Titans was around a 9. If you're saying a player so far has been a 9 you're saying they've played consistently at that level. Our record is 6-5 and those losses include some stinkers which have to be taken into account if you're rating someone's overall performance. 5 is an average NRL player. 6 is probably how BJ has performed this year (because you'd have to at least compare him to Marty who has been better but not a 10). And so on.

I must have missed Jono Wright's debut.

I'd say they have all been solid without being spectacular. 5-7 out of 10 seems pretty fair assessment across the board. I really want to see a bit more of Cletus as I think he could be the pick of the bunch, but you have to trust that Captain Underpants and the rest of the coaching staff don't share my enthusiasm on that front otherwise he'd be getting more minutes. Also keen to see if Perrett can live up to hype.

Greens not a top 5 I agree but without him DCE isn't producing these 10 out of 10 performances. For me Green deserves a lot more credit than he is getting, a hell of a lot more credit.

And as for Walker playing better than DCE last year I stand by it. At least Walker was always having a go, going sideways is better than what DCE produced last year. DCE faded through that season and games. Wasn't all DCEs fault but he wasn't trying like he has in 2017.

1. Tommy Turbo - Mr linebreak! Just a champion player. 9.5.

2. Jorge - Just a machine! Brings the ball back like a v8 and cannot be stopped close to the line. 8.

3. Kelly - Best signing this year for me. So excited to see him on the team sheet round 1. Has plenty to learn and is growing each game. 7.5.

4. Walker - Yippee i love this fella!! Confined his love for Manly and we want him to stay. Just so sure he is Killer's successor. 9.

5. Uate - Playing his best footy which is really saying something. More spark than Origin Energy. 8.

6. Green - Great half, has really brought professionalism in spades. Storm-like. 8.

7. DCE - Has really shown he can lead this team of champions and is really earning his huge pay packet. 9.

8. BJ - What is he, 25 years old? Plays like it. Plenty of energy and impact!! Love the guy. 8.

9. Api - I've got love for Api. Gives it his all! Has really sharpened his passing and is never afraid to make a tackle. 8.

10. Kapow - Fark what a legend! Hits, offloads, hair. Unreal. 9.

11. Frankenstein - What a great find huh? Gives everything and then some. Unit. 8.

12. Curtis - I was skeptical when we signed this fella but he has tackled his heart out each game and has shown he can run a great line. 8.

13 Jake turbo - What can be said that hasn't already? 9.9.

Starting 13

Myles - Not as terrible as last year. 7.

Hastings - We're yet to see the best from Kevvy Jnr but the signs are there. Can pass and is a real 7/9 in the making. Can kick too. 8.

Brown - Our Mr Fixit has been good when called upon and I'm happy he is in our team. Really lifts the team with his energy and can play a great 9, good 11/12 and an ok 3/4. 7.

Fonua Blake - Wow loving this guy right now! Look up "impact" in the dictionary and this guy's face is there. 8.

Lussick - Needs to be on the park but when he is and not giving away penalties he is great. 8.

Wright - Solid and if I'm honest surprised me with his ability. 7.5.

All the new guys have added something to the team. The outstanding recruit is Uate who looks refreshed and hungry for success.

One thing for sure it is so nice to see guys out there really having a crack for the team after witnessing the 15 and 16 seasons where we had some guys who just didnt want to be at our club.

Green has been a great foil for dce and released the pressure , sometimes his kicking is not 100% but who's is . Also the occasional missed tackle that should be made, but all in all maxta your 6.5 rating is close to the mark. For me the 8.5 rating for uate is the winner. So far safe under the high ball and explosive running but more importantly he is growing in confidence with every outing and not been found out of position.

uate - 8 he's been great for us needs to get more ball he's so dangerous

perrett - 6 done well when he's played looking forward to more of him

green - 8 he's been great really controls the game and let's cherry chime in when he wants great buy

winterstein - 7 he's been solid and will only get better.

sironen - 6 pretty good but I expected more from him though he is getting better and can only grow.

hastings - 6 he's been good with his time on the field

If 5 is a pass and 6 is above average ......
M Wright ( % Goal kicker ) 6
J Wright 4
Cullen 5
Green 6
Kelly 6
Uate 7
Hastings 6
Lane 5
Kennedy 4
Winterstein 6
Sirro 6
Perrett 6

Green is great ... he makes the team and other players look good. Very solid. He is playing above the price he is paid. That means he is a positive which allows other players to be paid more and not a drain on the cap.

He may not win us a comp but we can win one with him in the team. I give him a 7.5.
