Obviously as a Manly fan I enjoyed the game against the Raiders.
Also found it a finals type intensity from both sides.
The penalties can be seen as a negative, but it was both sides competing heavy in a torrid game.
All the media have been saying how disappointed they were in relation to the game and how much better the South-Brisbane game was.....to my observation both Manly and Canberra would have beaten these sides well on the form shown.
Is it more about the media and general rugby league world upset over Manly winning games they are expected to lose and continue to leave egg on the face of the doubters ??
I feel it is and is proof Manly are on the up and the smell of success is in the air, which brings out the hate and is a great sign Manly are back.

8 from our last 10 and one of those losses was by 1 point. We have beaten Storm Raiders and eels. We certainly are going to be competitive at the business end of the season

The commentary I have seen has mainly been about the 24 penalties blown during the game, and how stop start it was. I agree. I was there and we were all talking about it, particularly after the first half. From a Manly perspective, each time we built pressure, there was a penalty, like every time. I agree with Ricky's general comments on what this does to the game .

I'd also say that there was a lot of positive commentary about Manly after we beat the Storm at home, FWIW.

Hopefully more of the same this weekend. What a HUGE game on Saturday - can't wait for it.

While that's true, a lot of it had to do with the fact that that was also the week, started by Max Krilich, where Melbourne's grub wrestling tactics started being brought into the spotlight. Plus there were no real controversies in that game so most were glad Melbourne lost, even if it was to Manly.

But against Canberra.....we were up against arguably the sentimental favourites who haven't won or played a Grand Final in 25 years. No one cares for Souffs anymore since they won in 2014, people generally hate Melbourne, while only Chooks fans really care if they go back to back. Of the genuine contenders (no one seems to be willing to hang that hat on the Worms), that leaves Manly and Canberra. And since everyone hates us again, Canberra it is.

The annoying thing about all the penalties is that the Raiders are all over the ball on every single tackle, and play like absolute grubs (deliberately trying to cause injuries - especially Leilua and Whitehead) and yet they are the ones whinging about how we played!

I am convinced that Whitehead did his best to fling his body weight into DCE's leg at an awkward angle in the match against us at Brookie, which caused us to be without DCE for several weeks.

One thing that was obvious on Sunday was that in a lot of tackles, Canberra were trying their ball stealing tactic. Their problem though was two fold. First, their timing was usually off and when a ball was stripped, the other tacklers hadn't let go yet. And also, our ball security was generally good and you could tell we were well versed in holding onto the ball against their tactics.

Not once during the game did Canberra's attempted ball stealing pay off for them. Either we managed to maintain possession, or they were actually penalised for a strip. And you could tell it frustrated the living hell out of them. You could also tell it frustrated the television commentators too with both Johns and Gould on 9 resorting to claiming that strips that saw the ball hit the ground were Manly knock-on's late in the game.

After beating Melbourne, Canberra suddenly became everyone's hot tip. Then Manly of all teams rolled into town and left with the 2 points. They didn't like that. They didn't like it one bit.

Wighton appeared to leap while holding Jetski by the head during that 2nd half tackle that led to the two of them momentarily shaping up to each other. They didn't show another angle so not 100% sure, but there was certainly something in it that Jetski didn't appreciate.

The problems that I see with Canberra’s ball stripping tactics are that
1. The refs are onto it so they are looking more closely at their timing - I think the first few weeks they took the refs by surprise so they weren’t really onto it.
2. Opposition teams are onto it - if you know the first guy goes for ball then how you position yourself going into the tackle will help and you may gain more metres knowing that.

I think that tactic has run its race going forward as everyone is onto it and if their timing is a touch off, they’re gone.

Also, the Raiders and the media used the term “messy” when describing our tactics in the tackle/ruck but no-one really said what “messy” was.

Sticky mentioned about his team having to be prepared to get in the gutter when needed and alluded that they were ambushed - Dessie’s still got it.

For those of us that rely on stats, the proof that we are back is highlighted by our defense. We have the least missed tackles in the league. View attachment 12372
Fence sitting Fox reporting still can’t bring themselves to believe we are the real deal.
When Souths beat the “donkeys” and got back in the top 4 , one clearly sensed a sigh of relief by fox media ,wide world of sport etc, etc that there idea of the top 4 had been restored.
Then we go and beat the Raiders, regaining our spot back in the top 4
Vossy a passionate Souths supporter (obviously wanting us to lose) while calling the game was livid , every momentum swing that favoured Manly he wanted to review anything !, as long as we lost
‘Hang on Vossy, ! You were sweet a moment ago when the Raiders were winning.

While Manly’s win propelled us back into the top 4 Ben Ikin still has lingering doubts “for some reason I still can’t get on Manly”! He said, Looking across at Kenty as he flicked his eyes in support.
How about this reason Ben according to the pundits we had the toughest run home since round 18 of which we won 6 and lost 1
Best goal line defence.
Surely thats’s proof we’re good enough.

'Noice'

History has shown monkey typists all death ride us until Manly has an unassailable lead in the gf, then suddenly they wax lyrically on like they were true savants of the Manly greatness. It's the lamest band-wagoning one ever gets to see.

Cooper Cronk reveals why Des Hasler’s Sea Eagles can win the premiership in 2019

Sydney Roosters halfback Cooper Cronk admits Manly are a threat to their NRL premiership defence after the Sea Eagles upset Canberra on Sunday.

Manly finished 15th last season before prodigal son Des Hasler returned seven years after his ugly split with the club he guided to two premierships.

Hasler has the Sea Eagles flying towards finals as they sit fourth with two rounds remaining after winning five of their past six games.

Cronk is trying to win his third straight premiership before retiring at the end of the season and admitted Manly was a threat to his quest for one reason.

“One name - Des Hasler. He’s in his element at Manly. He’s got a game style that holds up under pressure and is proven to be successful,” Cronk told NRL 360.

When everyone starts hating us again you know all is good in the world.

“ No one likes us we don’t care”
Undeniable proof that the nrl can NEVER afford to lose the bad guy. Manly has injected tremendous interest into this competition now. It was looking boring as batsht that Scum400 and the Rorters were going to runaway with it but now all the talk is Battle of Brookvale and the rise of the bad guy that everyone wants to see beaten. Greenturd cannot afford to lose us from the competition
