Jorge has just about pioneered a new position, basically part winger and part prop. The number of hit-ups he takes each set is amazing.
All wingers nowadays are supposed to take a hit-up after a kick reception but Jorge does much more than that.
I'm inclined to think the coach has something to do with this and it is about playing to our roster's strengths. If so it's a pretty good idea.

All the backs are doing their bit on that front. Definite tactic from Barrett because it is more consistent than normal, just about every set in our own end the back 3 especially are getting in there. Hit up stats would be interesting reading I reckon

There's a story on the back page of the Manly Daily today about Jorge wanting to stay at Manly. Kinda sad. It's funny with him. I love him with the ball, but that bomb last night he spilled was also very Jorge. He can do damage with the ball but good teams can still exploit his deficiencies catching kicks.

The thing is, the pros far out weight the cons with Jorge. He is one of the few connections left from the good ol' days and we need a scary psycho with crazy hair in the backline to fill the void left by Matai. Outside of Mansour and Oates, there really is no better or more courageous winger to take the ball out of trouble than Jorge.

He is built low to ground and when you pair that with his strength, he is impossible to pick up and drag back in those nasty ugly hit up moments on our own line in games. It's a thankless job and one that goes largely unnoticed but it's a massive play and he does it week in week out. His metres gained each week is phenomenal.

I will be gutted if he has to leave Manly.

Yeah I notice he is always the player to take the first hit up from a scrum win as well. I think his low centre of gravity and strength has been identified as important when rucking the ball out of those precarious situations.

I think I've learnt my lesson this year. It seems that no one is irreplaceable. I love Jorge and his determination but, que sera sera..

I'm just going to sit back and enjoy this season in the here and now.

GO MANLY!!!

Why would they let him go?

Wingers are required and it's unlikely to get a bet one for the same money.

I have never understood the criticism, he is winger, they are rarely talented and have plenty of holes in their game.

Its crazy to think Manly wouldn't offer him another contract. It nerves me that the 'manly chasing Tupou' rumor was surfacing indicating Jorge will be moved on as his contract is up at seasons end. Now this would be a step backwards IMO. Yes he has issues under the high ball but our success rolling forward is off the back of his early hard work. His power and leg drive is the best in the comp for a winger forcing the defence on the back foot and therefor winning penalties in the ruck for holding down. I see way to much value in him not to offer him a contract. GET IT DONE MANLY

I reckon hoppa was the prototype in his final 2 or 3 seasons. He did a mountain of work out of dummy half.

Is that a polite way of saying Jorge is vertically challenged

Having a great season, still get scared every hit up he takes though, that ball carrying style..
