I didn't get that he was referring to women as things..
I read it as he wanted to say pull a root, but figured better not on tv, so said will pull something..
 
No wonder we end up with all the cliched answers when they’re being interviewed.
"It was a credit to the boys"....that’s all I’m prepared to say.
