Our biggest find this year ...

1978

Reserve Grader
,,, Reuben Garrick's goal-kicking

Been a long time since we had a gun goal kicker (Killer was an elite player but never an elite goal kicker).

Touch wood, Garrick strikes the ball beautifully and I can remember him 'shanking' only one shot (against Dragons). He looks more capable than DCE from out wide.

Also love that we have a winger goal-kicker... never understood why most kickers in modern game are now halves/hookers... surely they have enough to do.

Consistently going up in 'sixes' rather than 'fours' could be the difference between top 8 or top 4 spot.

Anyone know his goalkicking stats??

85.7% and by the looks of his stats at St Merge , he wasn't a goal kicker there.

He may have been a kicker in his juniors and stepped up when DCE got hurt. He takes the kick offs so I guess he was thrown the tee when DCE was unable to kick.
A great move in my opinion, from adversity we unfold a possible diamond.

Regardless, hes only going to get better with more kicks and confidence, I'm pretty sure Des will get him a goal kicking coach to add to his technique and we could have a " Mathew ridge " onboard!

His side line kicks where fantastic yesterday and he wont struggle for distance, i actually feel pretty sure hes going to kick them or at least go very close all the time.( which as a fan is massive for the heart rate..hehe) I think he hit the post from the sideline a few weeks back from memory. so hes % could indeed look even better than it is.

anyway, early days but I can see Des giving him the job permanently and take some of the pressure off DCE who has enough to do and can save his legs for kicks in general play... where we really need him.

The "Sandwich" only needs to tighten up his D and we have unearthed a quality NRL first grade winger for the long haul. hes only young and will get bigger and stronger too.
