NRL stars past and present will switch boots for boxing gloves at the Star of the Ring charity fight night in Sydney on Friday.

The main event of an intriguing lineup pits Cronulla premiership winner Paul Gallen against Parramatta bruiser Junior Paulo, with Gallen looking to build on an impressive 5-0 start to his boxing career.

Former NRL halves Chris Sandow and Todd Carney will square off in a battle of boxing rookies while Eels prop Peni Terepo also makes his boxing debut, against New Zealander David Tuliloa.

As I watched that I began to imagine how great it would be if a resurrected Muhammad Ali appeared in the ring and proceeded to beat the **** out of them for bringing his sport into disrepute.

Agree, but Gallon is lucky Paulo didn't have another months sparring under his belt. For a bloke who had never been in the ring he was impressive.
6 months training and I'd back Paulo.

I'm no Sandow fan, but I thought the LITTLE bloke, given up the reach and weight difference did great. Hay makers sure, but given he had to let Carney throw one, avoid it, and counter every single time to just get close enough to Carney to hit him. Sandow won that fight easily for mine.
