So whats our thoughts on the below team v what we have now?

We have upgrades across the park in my opinion.

Tom 2017 v Tom 2021 - not even worth comparing

Jorge v Saab - only 1 season but Saab has huge upside. To score 25+ tries says it all for a rookie.

DW 17 - Parker - would give this to DW 2017 without doubt.

Kelly V Harper - Kelly has more natural talent but I would go so far to say Harper a better fit.

Uate v Garrick - Garrick by a kicking tee whisker

Green v Foran - foran for me without doubt.

DCE 2017 v 2022 - again not even a competition. He's playing so much better now.

Lawrence V Pasenka - pasenka huge upside
Appi v frog - Appi

Marty v marty - hard to say. Younger fitter v older smarter.

Frank W v Hamole - sorry I'm just laughing to myself.

Sirro v the shoe - no use even comparing im afraid. The shoe buy a country mile.

Jake v jake - he's better now than ever.

Poo brown - keppi - again so much better
Nate miles - aleo vera - 22 better by far.
AFB - anyone - AFB obviously better
Lloyd Perret - bully or lawman - both better now by far.

We are in a good place !

Pretty accurate imo....though I have Garrick who is the most improved player in the NRL way ahead of Uate all round and is still on the up
Harper in his first season well ahead of Kelly, who was and still is inconsistent at best and apart from Harps poor 2 finals games - he setup 20 + tries, scored 11 and was far better than Kelly defensively.
Walker in comparison to Parker is chalk and cheese as Walker in 2017 was dynamic, Parker though reliable, just done his job....

Best way to way it up I think is who would make the 17 from 2017 -

Tom - Still here
Walker - " "
DCE - " "
Kapow " "
Jake " "
Api - Gone
AFB - Gone

I would argue taupau 2017 was significantly better

And jake 2017 was better imo

I'm not sure Jake was better just different perhaps? He now does a job that Des requires for our system. Yes I may make him a little less dynamic but its important none the less.

Marty perhaps but has he ever really lived up to the hype? As much as I wasn't sad to see AFB go for reasons other than purely footy he was genuinely one of the best props in the game for a while there whereas marty just never really fulfilled that promise IMHO.

I don't know where you found these stats, but according to Foxsports, Harper scored 8 tries, had 4 try assists, 24 offloads, 9 line breaks & 58 tackle busts. Elsewhere, I read that he topped (or was second?) in effective one on one tackles.

It's including all 29 games - so would include a few games played in 2020 also

You're right, Jake has changed roles a bit

I think Marty peaked in 2017 from memory, but other than that I agree as well. Still been very good at times and has had dominant performances, but is pretty undoubtably in decline now

Agree re AFB as well, although I think we did the right thing getting rid of him as the current dynamic of our pack is really suited for the modern game.

1. Goes without saying
2. Saab. Unfortunately 2015 was the last time I would class Jorge as having a great season
3. Walker. Was a great season for him and I say that not being a fan of his
4. Kelly. Was very happy with Harper last year but Kelly has looked good in terrible sides. Would be seen as a star if he got picked up by the likes of Storm or Roosters
5. Garrick
6. Foran
7. DCE 2017. It was actually one of his finest seasons for us. His stats that year were first class
8. Have to go Paseka now but loved the heart Lawrence played with
9. Flip of the coin for me between Api and Croker
10. I felt Taupau 2017 was better
11. Lol… Haumole by unanimous decision
12. Schuster
13. Jake 2017. Jake from 2015-2018 was something special

14. Keppie
15. Anybody but ****en Nate Myles
16. AFB
17. Lawton

Blake Green and Foz is a tough one for me. It was a quick one year stint, but what Green did for the team was hugely understated. Honestly, a very pivotal reason in us sneaking into the 8 that year. Foran also plays that underrated role. They both play a big part in complementing Chez's game and giving him that stability so he doesn't run around like a headless chook like in 2020, which is a beneficiary for our success.

Brenton Lawrence lacked the size of Paseka, obviously, but what a great player. He just had a go. I remember him charging at the Souths forwards in a semi against them. Never gave up. I like Paseka - he could learn from how BL played.
