A former federal police investigator and school principal may seem an unlikely choice to lead an NRL giant and one of the most famous sporting clubs in Australia.

Given Manly's recent tendency to land in trouble, however, it could prove a shrewd move.

The Sea Eagles did not venture far when it announced in September that Tim Cleary would replace Joe Kelly as chief executive officer of the embattled club.

Cleary will move into the position after leaving his post of principal of St. Augustine's College, located across the road from the club's home ground Brookvale Oval on Sydney's northern beaches.

Can't wait to see how he goes, seems pretty honest, something Joe Kelly certainly didn't show, hopefully he keeps that way
