Members' behind the scenes

Hi guys,

Just got back home from the "Behind the Scenes" brunch this morning at Brookie. I'll tell you what, $50 VERY well spent! We started at 10 this morning and were greeted by Toovey, Rose, Kite, Seu Seu, Kelly Egan (assistant coach) and Larissa. After being split into a couple of groups, we were escorted by Larissa and George and were shown where Des sits and how a regular pre-game day transpires. We then headed down to the locker rooms and were shown the ice baths, lockers, change rooms and finally the media room where pre and post match conferences are held, as well as a final team talk before game day.

After that, there was a bit of a kick around and everyone from the club was more than happy to answer any questions we had. Finally, before brunch, we went up to the lounge and heard from Des and Liz (sports scientist at the club) who explained how the GPS system at training works and showed us some live results based on a few volunteers' movements on the field.

Was a great morning and an excellent birthday present for me. I'd strongly suggest everyone have a look into getting a ticket for the next one (if there is one) as it was a wonderful and informative morning. The players and staff were more than happy to sign merchandise and answer questions.

Larissa, and all those involved, thanks for this morning!

I was there codewana and had a terrific time. I've posted a similar thread. Get to the next one people and take your kids.

The red group, still have my wristband on. Weird really. I thought there would be only a few people at the event. Not so. Good to see the kids having such a great time, getting their pics taken standing in the players change booths etc. Speaking to Toovs and Kite was such a buzz. I'll probably do it again, and will recommend it to any other fans. Terrific time..

I went too (I was with you by the looks of it in the blue group! I had the pink scarf) and it was really amazing. Talking casually to Kelly especially was great, finding out about Brett's knee reconstructions (I've had two myself). I'm sure no other club has done this before and I'm looking forward to more members events. Only my first year as a member and so far, everything is great.

Like you, Codewana, it was an excellent birthday present for me too! I was in the red group and loved speaking with Toovs and Kitey. Even got a photo of Kitey in his own dressing room cubicle (all players have a cubicle with their names above them). I learnt heaps about what goes on behind the scenes, went in the coach's box where Des & staff sit, where the broadcasters, cameras, video ref are, the dressing rooms and where the media conferences are held, etc etc. Also got a very interesting insight into the scientific side about the GPS units explained by Liz (sports scientist).

Thoroughly enjoyed the morning and worth every cent. Thanks heaps to Larissa and everyone involved.

Did Kitey say when he was back?

I think it's been confirmed elsewhere that both Kite & Rodney will return after the bye. Can't wait till their back, we certainly need the depth there at the moment.

By the way, 2 stats learnt from the scientific talk:

Who's our fastest current player? Michael Oldfield, but we were told Snake's speed is improving and he's catching up to Oldfield.

Who's our hardest hitter? We all answered Matai but it turned out to be T-Rex.

Kitey indicated to me he's be playing against the Goons. He looked very fit. Terrific event. And Big George is the fastest forward over thirty metres.

When I was with him yesterday, he said he would probably be sitting this one out... Not sure now though :S

Of course it was worth every cent, you didn't pay for it.

Haha! My fiance did, so I essentially did. Or at least, the way I look at it, its money that could have gone towards something else for me - an opportunity cost, if you like! 😉

Not that it matters but i'm assuming you're female. Pink scarf and all!
