MATTHEW Johns has rubbed his crystal ball and made some early predictions about the 2017 season, weighing in on the likely fortunes of his former clubs, Newcastle and Cronulla, as well as a transitioning Manly Sea Eagles.

Speaking to Fox Sports News during the week, Johns was cautiously optimistic about the strides the Knights could take over the next 12 months and gave Manly a glimmer of hope that a rare two year spell out of the finals could be snapped by a squad that has been completely overhauled since Trent Barrett took over from the axed Geoff Toovey.

Beats me why so many journos put an r on the noun peninsula.

Peninsular appliances at north manly had me bemused for many years, but I suppose they may be using the word in adjectival form.

The R is probably a speech relic from the old pirate days. "Drop anchor as close as we can to that there peninsula, arrggghh!"

Who knows?? I always thought it looked much more like a promontory, if you get my point. Anyway, I'm going to grab my cape and horn, head down to the foreland and see if I can bluff some mull off Cliff.
