ROOSTER WANTED

The Roosters have some competition for NSW flyer Daniel Tupou with Manly entering the mix for his signature.

The 25-year-old has caught the eye of the Sea Eagles’ decision makers as they continue to tweak their squad following the retirements of Brett Stewart, Jamie Lyon and Steve Matai.

Tupou’s name has also been mentioned at Parramatta with the winger an Eels junior, although the club is yet to reach out to his management.

While it’s been speculated Tupou could leave the Tricolours, Market Watch understands the club is hopeful of keeping him.

“The pressure’s on,” Tupou said of his future.
......

When this rumour came up last year I was definitely against it. Now I'm 50/50, don't know who we'd lose out of our wingers, Taufua I suppose although he has been one of our best this season, surely not?. Only speculation again of course, I'd keep him away, back three have been phenomenal and centres as well

Jorge has poor hands and can be lazy turning around and chasing the ball; however, nobody in the game is better at getting the ball over the line with the defence in front of him. His ability to barge over whilst tip toeing the sideline is second to none. He also runs the ball really hard out of our 20.

Tupou would give us a target to kick to which we don't have, and he is a strong runner out of the 20. He is worse defensively than Jorge and has more handling errors in him(dropping passes not kicks). It's a hard decision and if we want a new winger I'd go after Nofoaluma (which I've probably crapped on about too many times, but I think he is the perfect winger in today's game).

Tupou's strength is in the air - ask Wolfman about that. I'd prefer Horhay to be honest, he may not be as good under the high ball but he is better at finishing in traffic and does way more grunt work helping out the forwards - basically he is a stronger ball runner.

I find it hard to get excited about potential wing signings - unless they are a genuine utility back option (able to cover fullback or centre properly). There aren't many wingers in the game that are genuine match winners in their own right.

I'm the opposite. I was all for it last year but not so sure now as our wingers (and centres for that matter) are going much better than I expected, particularly Uate.

We need a forward and a 2nd rower like Josh Jackson or Kane Evans. only props on the market are Graham and woods. If we are to get one of them I'd want woods as he's younger

Jorge is struggling with fitness later each season and is headed to the second row after changing his body shape to accomadate that style of game. By doing so gives him approx 3 years extra football. On that basis they are looking for a replacement that can finish off tries. You would think that Jorge would be one wing next year and Tupou on other if he comes over. Think the plan is to think long term as Jorge would only last this year or next, until he needs replacing from the wing. As much as Jorge has been huge this year, injuries have been an issue.

Toopoo or not tupou ????
That is the question.......
No I prefer what we have.

I really like Daniel Tupou and I would be very pleased to have him at Manly. I definitely do not want him to replace Taufua as I see Jorge as the best metre eating winger along with Josh Mansour. However, I think we could use Daniel on the other wing instead of Uate. I understand that Uate has been strong to start the year but I do not trust him to get the job done long term or in crucial semi-finals.

I am not sure about Jorge, he has some excellent qualities but I wonder if his time as a top winger is nearing the end.

Could be wrong of course, he is only 25, but this will be his 6th season as our left winger and we haven't kept too many wingers that long.

I suspect we might be looking for a bit more speed and strike on the wings for the future.

I can't see him coming here when the Roosters will offer $100,000 per season. No amount of money is worth leaving for what the Roosters offer. Its been proven over and over.
