Here are the current injured players....
Who would be in the 17 ?
How much difference would it make ?
  • Curtis Sironen (knee, round 6)
  • Andrew Davey (knee, TBC)
  • Cade Cust (head knock, TBC)
  • Tom Trbojevic (hamstring, round 4)
  • Haumole Olakau'atu (elbow, indefinite)
  • Jorge Taufua (Achilles, indefinite)
  • Manase Fainu (stood down, indefinite)
Out of this group -
  • I feel Sirro is lucky to make the 17 and down on form, will get the auto select, but way off the mark on recent form.
  • Davey a definate off the bench and definately added energy, rate him as a goer...must have walked under a ladder.
  • Cust is a great option in the 14-17 ahead of Croker imo (at full strength), fills in at 9, 6 or 7 with zest.
  • Haomole is the unlucky player - should be in Top grade based on performance and talent...will make a difference 100%.
  • Jorge is a Warrior, but struggles these days, still has more of a go than many in today's team.
  • Fainu is the key - with him at 9, Manly go from average Joe's to genuine Top 4 - if the spine is available also....will free up DCE who is trying to play a complete game and under pressure, Schu/Foz get way more time, Tom will be playing through middle off these blokes all day and attack will be like "where the f**k did this come from" ??

Personally think the difference would be Massive and the first game would have been close and would have won against Souths, more importantly would win the majprity of games and contest the finals.
It's sad we have had a horror injury run in recent years, but IF this team can get these injured players back, especially the 1 and 9, I expect a good run of wins but hopefully not too little too late....

Manase huge out. Gets us to that fight for eighth spot category if Tommy plays.Fainu is as good as any in comp now that Smith gone . Cook has been a bit quiet for a while until Saturday lol .Cust has upside, as does Guaca.

Get close to Roosters ? Not a chance. Nor Storm or Panthers.

Manase , Cust and Guaca don’t fix the speed issue.None of them do.This is not 2019 again. Game is totally different.

Until we find speed and play direct it’s middle table stuff for mine.We are the slowest team in the comp and Des is fine with that it seems.

Juniors are there if we could put a couple of the right players around them. It’s within touching distance but Dessies view of how the game should be played seems to be very different to how it is actually played. At least we have talent looming next couple of years- many teams don’t.

I look forward only to the future now , lots of great juniors ( IF we can retain them ) coming through.

I think we just have to accept we are currently **** and probably will remain that way for some time.

PS: you got webbed feet yet ????

**** me dead it hasn’t stopped raining at Reddie Bay for days

Had a few with big Gordie at Regatta Hotel a couple of weeks ago. The weather has little effect on his drinking habits lol Fired up about the broncos too- the old boys are going nuts up here , although Kevvie has plenty of browny points up his sleeve.

All those pundits saying that we didn't have the depth, and would struggle with injuries - that I thought were off the mark - maybe, just maybe - they might have something there.

I know, Captain Obvious statement of the day.

Please, please please, please - how about just one year with all our squad available to play - each week? We can talk about form after that. I am so frustrated with the lack of value for the $$$$$$$ that the club spends ATM. Des used to have a knack for getting great value out of the available roster - let's hope we see it this year. Hope is all we seem to have.

I know it's been talked about before, but we and other clubs are getting smashed, and smashed early, by injuries. Is it their training? The fields? The rules of the game now? The physical make-up of players now versus the past? A combination of factors?

I understand that the ball was in play perhaps 50 minutes out of 80 in the 1970's (for example). They play itself was often slower, with a lot of stoppages. However a lot of those games were extremely brutal as well. I can recall only one replacement was allowed, and that replacement usually had played a lower grade game that day.

By contrast, we seem to have a veritable conga line of players coming on and going off ATM. No wonder positional play and team structure goes out the door. I can't recall any time such as now when we've had so many injuries, so early, in games.

Our age group laments the loss of those days.

There’s no doubt the modern game has skills unheard of when I played as a kid, look at what the wingers do these days as an example.

But for me it’s the tackling styles that are causing most injuries.

When I was a junior they had us practicing tackling almost non stop “ around the legs boys even big fellas can’t run when you do that “.

Now it’s gangs of tacklers , twisting , turning , bending etc etc.

Take me back to the old days please !!

Sorry but including Manase in the injured column isn’t right.

He has been gone for quite some time and it’s on the club and Des for buying players for all other positions but failing to replace him with a decent 9.

It’s not chance that we don’t have a legitimate 9.

They gambled on TNI

And it’s clear it didn’t work !!

**** me dead even I could have told them that !!
