Manly fit and firing for NRL finals action

Jorge Taufua is the only member of Manly's top 17 who will be unavailable for the first week of the NRL finals.

Manly will carry a near clean bill of health into the NRL finals series, after bench forward Addin Fonua-Blake was cleared of a leg injury.

Fonua-Blake limped from the field early in the Sea Eagles' 28-12 defeat of Penrith on Saturday night, sparking fears the powerful prop could miss the early stages of the finals series.

But coach Trent Barrett confirmed after the game 21-year-old should be fit to take on either Penrith or St George Illawarra in next weekend's elimination final.

"He's got a knock there, but he could have got back on," Barrett said.

The news means Manly will enter next week's finals series with one of the healthiest squads.

Of their top 17, only Jorge Taufua has suffered a season-ending knee injury. Centre Brad Parker has also suffered a similar fate, after he came into the starting side last month.

Manly's only other concerns could be Dylan Walker and Apisai Koroisau, who were penalised for shoulder charges and dangerous respectively on Saturday night. Neither were placed on report.

Meanwhile second-rower Curtis Sironen made a successful return from a pectoral injury against Penrith, after he finished in good health and with a try to his name.

"Getting Sirro back was a big boost - I thought he was outstanding. Considering he didn't play for 10 weeks he was terrific," Barrett said.

"It was the healthiest we have been in a while."

I think Manly have not used many players this year. The 17 who played yesterday plus backs Tafua and Parker, halves Hastings and Cullen, and forwards Myles Kennedy and Tanginoa. And Lane! I've probably forgotten some.

With any luck that month or so of underwhelming performances was part of a bit of a recovery period, and now the squad can play high energy football for their final month of the season.

And yes hopefully it does last the entire month.

The report forgot about Lussick who is facing a one-week suspension for ... wait for it ... tripping while lying on the ground.
