Manly 61 St George 0 video

Long term forum reader of this site but this is my post (also of 'one eyed eagle' and the original online Manly site set up by the young scientist in the early 90s.)

I've just posted a video of the 1994 Manly 61 St George 0 game on youtube (also a first post !). The game is a classic and was never shown on any tv service. There is no commentary on the video but you can hear the crowd noise and the 1 camera is in the Jane Try Grandstand. If you were there on the day I'm sure it will bring back memories.

If the game is before your time ... St George had made the Grand Final in the previous 2 seasons (92/93) and were an established side. Manly were a team on the rise that had started to take shape in 1990 after a horror 1989. Ian Roberts was at the peak of his powers and Des Hasler and Cliffy Lyons remained from the 1987 team. Matt Ridge had joined along with forwards such as David Gillespie and Mark Carroll. These established players were combining with a wonderful mix of youngsters making their ark ... Steve Menzies, Nik Kosef, Daniel Gartner, Jack Elsegood and Danny Moore. Wonderful days and so many games back there were played in sunshine on Saturday or Sunday and being there for this era was a privilege.

I have a collection of old videos (now digitised) dating back to the mid 80s and will post some in the coming weeks. The others are tapes from tv broadcasts back in the day. Will aim to post ones that are a little obscure that have special memories.

Also - as this is my first post I wasn't sure if this should be in some sort of video thread ... tried to search for that but couldn't find one. Any help in how to post future videos would be appreciated.

Enjoy and Go Manly

Great stuff, thanks. I loved that early to mid ‘90s team.

I was fortunate to attend that game. I was on the hill near the halfway line.

You could not get a better scenario, a July afternoon in 1994, over 22K packed into Brooky to witness the slaying of the Dragons.

Remember that Dragons team played in the previous 2 grand finals and it remains their worst ever defeat I understand.

It was the start of a mighty team that in 95 made the grand final, won it in 96 and the were pipped in 97 by Drugcastle.

They were great days for rugby league it was just before the super league war when the game changed for good.

Wonderful memory and thanks for posting this!

I was at that game and it was one of fondest memories..especially as I went with my St George supporting brother and his mate
I was there too my Manly Bother and Feathered friend
This was one of our Many Proud Moments when our Legendary Manly Sea eagles Reigned Supreme

The Manly Golden Years when We were at the Top of our Game and All the other clubs despised us and wanted to put us down with their Tall Poppy sufferance

Memories, pressed between the pages of our Maroon and White Mind
Memories sweetened through the ages just like Manly Premiership Winning Wine

Shame we couldn't do a hat - trick 95'96'97. Albert's try was the most painful in my life, didn't have a TV for a while there. That era had my favourite Manly players ever. The PROTOTYPE - ROBOTIC players, giants of the game. After MG, Sironen, Harragon, Fairleigh, Clyde, Fittler, Daley etc, We've found our own Roberts, Spud, Kosef, Beaver, Gartner, Moore, Hopoate, Elsegood etcs. Man I love those times, will be a dream to see that again.
