THE man who jumped the fence and crash-tackled Sea Eagles mascot Egor at Bluetongue Stadium earlier this year has been convicted and ordered to do 150 hours of community service and ordered to pay a $1000 fine.

Brett Raymond Springett, 24, appeared in Gosford Court on Tuesday to face charges over the July 24 incident during the Eagles’ match against the Newcastle Knights.
The Tuggerawong man pleaded guilty to both the assault charge and one count of entering a playing field without permission.
Springett jumped the fence at the Gosford stadium with nine minutes of the game remaining and tackled Egor.
Outside court on Tuesday, Springett told The Daily Telegraph he did it because ``Egor flipped me the bird so I thought I would crash-tackle him’’.
Sea Eagles media manager Peter Peters said he hoped the incident would act as a deterrent to unruly fans.
``It was an unfortunate incident,’’ he said. ``Hopefully what has happened to him will be a deterrence to others who feel they want to jump the fence and do the wrong thing.’’
