Loan players

The Who

Journey Man
Does any body know the rules surrounding clubs loaning players to other clubs? I don't.
What say a good player out of finals contention, Reece Walsh, Kalyn Ponga, Payne Hass etc. wants to play finals football. Can a club in contention recruit him on loan? I can't see any difference to what Penrith has pulled off with TPJ.
How about this scenario: Manly needs Easts to lose a match to get into the top four. What's to stop us loaning Turbo, or DCE, to the club Easts are playing that week?
There is a lot of unknowns about this player loan situation and it is bound to be rorted unless clear rules are publicised. Frankly, I don't think under normal circumstances there should be loan players. I understand in Covid times the reasons why the Worriers were loaned players.

It is only in the case of extreme injurys.

Bulldogs hav 5 middles out so they were able to loan James and Horsebrough for 2 weeks.

TPJ was not a loan, Brncos released him to the Panthers.

And no Manly coulld not just loan Cherry, Turbo etc

Shouldn't you have to dip into your broader squad to cover injuries? Loans should be same as in football - no loans after the transfer window closes. After that point, sort it out in-house

Isn't the issue because of bubbles, and only x amount of players are in the bubble ?
So you can't just call up some kid from Reserve grade, unless he is already in the bubble?

Easts say they have extreme injuries. What's to stop them asking Brisbane for a loan of Hass?
TPJ was surely a loan; he's only playing for the 'Riff for a few matches. Penrith don't have injuries and certainly don't need TPJ to be competitive.
Surely when the comp reverts to pre-Covid rules there will be laws against loaning players because it is so easily manipulated.

I believe the loan system only applies to round games not finals
What the NRL are looking at it an in-house transfer system for the remainder of the season. It wouldn’t include finals and the grand final.

“It means players from clubs can switch immediately to fill gaps that are increasingly becoming a problem at certain clubs i.e. the Roosters, Warriors, the Dragons and the Sharks.”

TPJ was released from the remainder of his deal to free up some cap space.

He has signed a short term contract with Penrith before moving to the dogs next year.

Different scenario

Also why woukd the Broncos loan Haas?

If we get Uncle Nick to ask the NRL for us we might get Ponga for the next 3 weeks. No but how stuffed is the system. Loopholes everywhere.

Also why woukd the Broncos loan Haas?
Because they can't win a match with him and have nothing to play for this season. So if another club would pay Hass's salary, plus a premium, to help the Donkeys' bottom line finances, for a few matches, then why not? The Donkeys would get him back for next season.
