  • In 2010, officials from the Melbourne Stormrevealed that the club had committed serious and systematic breaches of the salary cap regulations between 2006 and 2010. By running a well-organized dual contract and bookkeeping system they concealed from the NRL a total of $3.78 million in payments made to players outside of the salary cap, including $303,000 in 2006, $459,000 in 2007, $957,000 in 2008, $1.021 million in 2009 and $1.04 million in 2010. As a result, the Melbourne Storm were stripped of the 2007 and 2009 premierships, 2006–2008 minor premierships and the 2010 World Club Challenge trophy, and fined a record $1.689 million. $1.1 million in NRL prize money was equally distributed between the remaining 15 NRL clubs, $89,000 in prize money from the World Club Challenge was distributed to the Leeds Rhinos, and the maximum of $500,000 was fined for breaching the salary cap regulations. They were ordered to cut their payroll by $1.0125 million, deducted all eight premiership points received during the season and barred from receiving premiership points for the remainder of the season. The points penalty meant that the club won the 2010 wooden spoon. Legal action by the former directors of the club against the penalties collapsed, and the matter was referred to ASIC, the Australian Tax Office, the Victorian State Revenue Office, and the Victoria Police.[13] The club's former CEO, Brian Waldron, and financial officers Matt Hanson, Paul Gregory and Cameron Vale were all suspended for life.
We played against a team during our run who were so far over the cap you can't even joke about it. 1.5 million combined in 07 and 08.... how the hell we didn't get awarded 07 is beyond me....

Bellamy became the Scumos' coach in 2005.
The next 5 year's records should all be wiped off his and that Club's history as the breaches were under his watch :wait:

The next time a reporter hears 'but we won the Grand Final ...', they should counter with 'but a quarter of your roster were ineligible'

The past can not be changed . Power comes from planning for a bright future

Many people seem to be blinded by Melbourne's dubious on-field success, but in my view the franchise has been a failure for the sport of rugby league.
Just how many NRL players has Melbourne developed since they entered the comp? You can count them on one hand!
Isn't the object of a franchise to spread the sport and provide a pathway for juniors?
Let's compare the crowds that the Storm attracts in Melbourne with the crowds the Sydney Swans attract in Sydney? About one-third, yet the comparisons - a 'foreign' sport in a new city (and now Sydney has two AFL teams) are valid.
The Storm should be relocated to Brisbane, or even to NZ. After all, almost all of their players are from Queensland and NZ.
The experiment of trying to expand RL into a pro-AFL State like Victoria has failed. After their systematic cheating they should really have been disbanded.
RL should concentrate on its heartland, NSW, Queensland, NZ, PNG and the Pacific Islands. That's where people understand and appreciate the sport, and youngsters aspire to play in the NRL.
How many young Victorians aspire to playing RL? If there are any then why haven't at least some risen to NRL standard?
So, in my view, The Storm is an irrelevance.

Dear god NO! If that was the case, Parra would claim the 2009 title. We have 2008 - that is sweet enough. Leave those years vacated and Parra clinging to 1986...

It’s like a general defending a small patch of territory in enemy lands, committing many men and resources whilst the enemy’s generals are chipping away at neglected defences in the allied territory.

They are still $800,000 over the cap. But they call that TPAs. Only one other club is over $200,000 I understand. That means they can still afford a couple of top liners more than other sides. Add to that the gimme the NRL gave to Cam Smith and its obvious some are far more equal than others. By the way Brisbane I understand had the second highest TPAs

Please... we are Manly, there is more chance of the powers that be taking 08 OFF us than there is of us being awarded 07...

Yet Turdy continues to bask in the light of scum400 and Martina. Never before has a sporting club, coach and players been so complicent in systemic cheating and yet continue to be paraded as "roll models". It is just disgusting how corrupt Turdberger is in plain view to all yet no one will call it.
