Going to be interesting to see which coach / tactic wins out here.
Walker at 9 is a different one but I can see how it would work. His strength is running and could definitely be a running 9. Outside the box yes but we now look to have plenty of outside depth so who knows.

DES should be trialling some others there anyway. I think u might have suggested Harper at 9? Squad just dosen't seem right yet ATM. A couple of positional changes or releases and it probably is done.

Yeah I mentioned Harper for the same reasons you mentioned Walker. Both have speed and ball skills, I don't see why it wouldn't work, especially as a utility option.

Walker.. Harper.. hookers. Have ye both descended into madness?? Sweet fancy Moses

The signing of Saab and Tuipulotu is some good news news during a very dark week for the club and the players losing one of the family. Aloiai & Garner would be great additions. All we need now is a quality hooker. Regardless of the De Belin verdict I cant see the NRL backing down on the Fainu ban until his matter is finalized in court. I have in recent times be critical of our recruitment and retention but the young talented players that we have targeted in recent weeks indicates that we are now getting our recruitment tragedy right.

I know it probably will never happen, I just reckon both are such natural footballers they could do a good job. With the limited options we have, the alternative is possibly Croker... I think I'd rather give Harper a go

again guys - even in this age of tiggy touch which the game almost is now - it is still really really hard to change positions. Centre/wing to a 9 is just not a hope in hell - ball passing/directing play/creating opportunities and then the defensive workload- no chance. In my day not a hope in hell you put a winger anywhere but on the wing because they could never tackle - these days they could play centre or fullback but ... that is about it! You might get a really good Centre in the Gene Miles mode that could switch to the backrow but again how many Gene Miles' are out there? Keep people in their positions - maybe Parker with his defensive skills could be a back rower - that is a chance but leave people in their specialist positions.

Parker would be concussed within 10 minutes of every game if he played in the backrow.
I genuinely fear for his well-being, even with less involvement at centre.

I think he’s an accident waiting to happen , sad , but he should consider retiring.

I don’t know about the track record in first grade, but I find that centres can transition to hooker quite well. It’s not much different from a 5/8 or 7 playing 9, and many centres have a history of playing 6 or 7 anyways. Out of the box idea for sure but we have a lot of young talent that i’d have some faith in making the unexpected move. Cust as 9 for mine though (for now), but I guess there’s no reason we can’t train and trial a few players like Harper and Walker or even Parker just for the sake of it. One may work and not really any risk in testing the waters. Maybe Schuster.

No doubt that the Manly coaching staff has been considering every reasonable option for a 9 [ and back up ] for next season but really can not see how the playing styles and capabilities of Walker and Harper would be suited in any way to bring them into calculations . Just such a specialist position and the work rate and durability in defence i or necessary work rate in defence for a side to be truly competitive is just so critical . Both quite gifted as attacking players [ not entirely sure on Harper "s consistency in defence but Walker "s is sufficient as a back ] but still really can not see any other options then Cust or Croker or Foran as a back up . Recall that Garner played as a centre at one stage in the manly 20 's so this would be an advantage if he does hopefully make the move back to Manly with this versatility . Certainly played strong against Manly in their encounter last season, seems to be a young back rower on the improve , can 't see any benefit in a swap with Siro and ideally just a straight out transfer to Manly .

Even though the lock 's or 13 role has really altered in recent seasons and even bigger bulky types with some mobility being used there , still a couple of more orthodox players such as Cam Murray playing important roles there . So no reason why Josh Schuster could not be quite effective there . With his good skip to the outside and ball playing skills , may be considered more suited to a 6 or edge forward but robust and big enough and athletic to still adapt to a 13 role . As for Parker , have to take into account that his ability to bust at least the i st tackle on a fairly regular basis and quite good positional defence would not fully discount him as an edge forward .but unlikely with the other present available back row contenders . if Jake does move to a prop along with Paseka , Marty and Alioia , not a bad prop combination or rotation there .

good point Mark - never thought of that

He’s like Boyd Cordner , multiple times now and he’ll become more fragile as the years roll on.

Yes - I find it strange in this day and age with head knocks - it seems a player gets a bump and he is knocked out.
