Regarding our wingers, whomever they happen to be, being air raid deficient, or lacking in defence .... I would suggest that that same description would apply to 85% of all wingers in the comp. At least 60% of all tries in the NRL are either from a kick out wide or a backline movement ending in a try out wide.

We don't seem to notice when we score from a kick that "their ****en useless piece of **** winger dropped the ball" we just say great try. When we perform a great backline movement and score out wide we don't say "their useless **** of a winger is hopeless" we just say great try.

I think when we are buttsore from a try against us we notice and magnify the fault.

To this end I have had a quick look at some other wingers stats. (yeah, stats don't tell the full story .. true) but interesting in that the differences between "good" and "bad" wingers are not as great as you would imagine.

Marika Koroibete 25games 31errors av errors 1.2
Daniel Topou 21 25 1.2
Jorge 18 18 1.0
Valentine Holmes 26 26 1.0
Bevan French 13 13 1.0
Curtis Rona 25 18 0.7
Anthony Don 22 12 0.6
Uate 10 6 0.6

Your right.... statistics don't tell the full story!

Are they 'all' errors Woodsey?

I think a drop ball from an attacking kick (which leads to a try in the next set) is very different to a dropped ball when attacking the oppositions line etc.

That would tell more of the story on Uate and Tafua. And would think this is the general issue people have with the pair.

If a bloke makes 0.6 errors per game but leads to a try each time compared to someone who makes double the errors but doesn't cause points - I know which one I'd want.

I love stats though.

Don't know is the answer to your question ... this is just the stats as supplied by the NRL. What is telling is that their error rates are not as some would imagine, twice that of any one else. In fact they are favourable or middle of the road.

Interesting point with Jorge's stats is that last year he had a 4 error game and an 3 error game which blew his average way out, and are probably the games we remember most. In fact he had about 10 error free games.

Woodsie we were a bit spoilt with the 'robbo' mate weren't we . What an underrated wingman. Gee id feel more confident going into games with someone like him on the flank . He was probably my favourite player . Stats dont lie but heres hoping this is a big turn around in 17.

loved the running style of Robbo and Donald.

Fair enough mate. Love a good statistic. Especially defending the Eagles.... win/win.

In my opinion, both Uate and Tafua seem to have trouble catching a highball when defending. Usually leads to a try in the following set.
That's the errors I would love to see out of their game.

Hopefully they improve this year as it will be a tactic for other teams if they are our starting wingers.

In the modern game it is a tactic for every team against every other team, I just believe we are not a whole lot worse than any other team.

Don't forget that Jorge played last year with a bad shoulder which must have made it difficult or painful to raise his arms above his head ... although I will concede that his debateable talents under the high ball preceded that injury. (smiley face)

Couldn't agree more mate - Robbo was a legend. So safe, great finisher, good pace - top bloke.

I think Taufua offers a lot more upside than bad, but even when Uate was at his best, I wouldn't want him a Manly jumper. I have never really rated him nor do I like his temperament on the field; a pussy cat.

Jorge is a beast and one of my favourite Manly players! Uate is a Drugcastle reject.

Nice post @Snake Pretty much summs up my feelings, except for the reported amount of Uate's contract. If what's been put out there is true we are paying this guy half of hi $500K contract, but next year the bill is all ours!!! I don't think this guy's worth the 50% discount rate.

We aren't paying him 500k at any stage. 500 is for this year only which we pay about half. Next year he wouldn't be anywhere near that.
