it's incredibly simple: get RID of trials

everyone bangs on with the old school crap: "pre season training is fine but players need game time..."

whatever

these pre season trials ALWAYS result in injuries......so I say: dump them and let's just start the season: Game 1

Up until about a fortnight ago I would have put up an argument Baz.
But watching the local news one night I saw the knights playing an internal trial at maitland. And they were full on.
If that was 2 or 3 weeks ago then they must've been in full contact for a few weeks. So most clubs would be the same.
So maybe they can do away with them and start the season early and shorten the comp or whatever but that's for another discussion.
I still think you can have all the internals you like but would need at least one hit out against another club.

Players do injuries at pre season training as well , so what do we do cancel that as well . Did you know that you can easily do your back in having sex feathered friend . Will that stop you from having a go ?
As Vincent Hanna once said, you can get killed walkin’ your doggie!

I had a crook back once and tried sex with the ex , couldn't perform and she called me a chicken feathered friend.

BOZO you're a great guy and thanks for your post - it's a little patronizing but I'll get over it - ok how about this: agree players need to train and they can get injured doing training drills however a trial is always played at a higher intensity than training because it's LIKE an NRL game AND it's meaningless result wise so I say flick it - if players get injured and they do - do it in a real game.

Firstly I do apologize if you found my reply patronizing as that was not my intension . My intension was to try and be funny the clown that I am .
I do think trials are essential and we will agree to disagree on that one

The reverse could then apply I guess. Players get injuries any old time so let's just make them do more, push harder. Why not do 10 trials, maybe 20. We could do 5 per week for all of January, after all players get injuries in training so it doesn't matter much does it.

The simple fact is it's more exposure to risk. The more exposure to that risk the greater the likelihood of injury. What is needed is exposure to risk when the benefits are likely to outweigh those risks. Trials are in my humble opinion a completely unnecessary risk. In this case Darcy is an experienced campaigner and would gain virtually nothing from playing a trial match, but the risks have been proven significant for nil return.

10 and 20 trials is going too far but having only 2 trials is a sensible way to get to see how individual players go , combinations go as well as to get players match ready .

maybe you should stick to the missionary position

How about we stop playing regular season games too, because with 24 games played the chance of an injury skyrockets. Start the season straight into the finals then we also wouldn't have to worry about origin scheduling. Plus we get to see more of those great internationals matches which are the Pinnacle of the game

I struggle to think of a sport where they don't have pre season/warm up games

Would put us severely behind the 8 ball......and I dont get the "save them for games that matter" argument

By saving them, we would go in underprepared against teams that are finely tuned and lose 2-3 games that matter before we even get going
