Now, I recall the NRL refusing to allow Gifty to play for Manly on a salary it deemed below his true value. Thus, Gifty was lost to Souffs.

Has the NRL backflipped on this interference rule? Do they no longer care what a player is paid?
Or was the rule just introduced to stop Manly's dominance and only applies to Sea Eagles' players?

I didn't think so. I used to think that you couldn't say...

Pay a player one dollar and then 900 in third parties as the nrl has some magic base assessment for players (re the gifty rule)

But I don't think there's a restriction like the one you're asking about.

I read it a few times, whether its a 100% accurate - who knows. But I think we can all assume its close to the mark.
