Cam Smith - the Koala - protected species put in his place.
Usually gets away with every foul play in the ruck and has been known to call 'Penaly Melbourne" and the ref will stop the game and ask him where penalty spot is and can basically get away with anything.
There's no doubt he runs that ruck area more than ANY player in the history of the game, but it's got to the point where he also runs the blokes with the whistles, the touchies and at times...the NRL higher powers.
Last night got owned for the first time by an official...I remember.....aaaah 1 other he copped a sin bin a year or 2 back.
As the Panthers got on top and were leading in the 2nd half, there was an infringement involving Smith that went Penriths way....Smith as by nature approaches the Ref and starts telling him the laws of the game and how to do his job.
The ref puts his hands up as in Stop there - and says "Would you like to Challenge the decision....Camoala not used to refs being in charge started again...the Ref simply repeated himself and Cam then dropped his head and sulks back into position.
Ref - 1
Camoala - 0

I hope they keep him in his place like this more often...I think as the game gets faster and he gets older will only get more frustrated...which will be great entertainment for footy viewers...@:)

I have backed Melbourne to miss the 8 on the same premise

I think he is down on his former ability and combined with other losses and belly ache in decision to continue , I think they are gone

Gone hone gone I say

Yep. I get the hate for Scam. But surely no-one can deny he is a 'superman' when it comes to remaining injury free over such a long career.
I've asked this before: how is it he never misses a match? I've received answers such as "he moves slowly so he doesn't get as hurt as a quicker player". Not sure how valid this explanation is.
He is not big, nor muscly and yet I can't recall him ever being treated on the field for an injury.
I remember once he missed a match 5-6 years ago because of a back spasm.
Dislike him as much as you want but only a fool would fail to acknowledge that he continues to set records in resilience and longevity. Sports medicine experts should make a study of him and his training methods etc and try to provide a blueprint for future players.
I welcome all thoughts on why Scan has survived so physically well for so long in such a brutal sport.

In my opinion, he doesn't get injured because he is rarely the first one in to tackle and regularly joins once the tackle is just about complete so therefore collision impact on his body is just about non-existent. From dummy half, he is quick to unload the ball so that he is rarely caught with the ball and at other times when he is not at dummy half, he has all the time in the world because he somehow mesmerizes opposition players who just stand there doing nothing until he unloads the ball.

OK.
So we just need to develop players who don't make one-on-one tackles and who pass the ball before they are tackled.
Got it!

The ref didn't get Bellamy's media release demanding that everyone stop being disrespectful to sCam!

Ref'll be dropped next week and never do another storm game this year for sure.

Spot on, and the ref was Ashley Klein of all people!

Yes @The Who that's the $64000 question which I ask myself too, particularly for a hooker still playing at age 37.

Camoala seems to know his limits physically and plays within them to perfection- some go 100mph and get injured and there's no secret, going in soft you will be injured...seems calm and doesn't overplay his hand and as a footy player...much respect....but as a whining bit## he certainly knows how to go way over the top and to be fair....if you can get away with it. - why not???
The officials have had spuds the size of marbles, so to see him cop a standup in your face was beautiful and hopefully lays the playform for 2020....this will now take away his impact controlling the games and maybe opposition will buy in and rev him up even more ....what a spectacle - bring me the popcorn

Crisp service, excellent kicking game, smart .
Doesnt overplay his hand. Respects posession and knows how to wear teams down.

His team is rarely on the backfoot for extended periods. He always finds a way to loosen the screws so the storm play less physically to a point. Brains as opposed to braun. There whole game is about avoiding huge collisions to protect the assets. They play on the front foot

My gut feel.

You can see the way they kick chase there way out of trouble year after year. From dummy half into a corner whenthe FB is out of position.

Everyone knows the bloke can play
Its his run over the officials that needs to be stopped and the new game play not allowing them to fall asleep on players in tackles and his dictating of who, when how an why refs make decisions...

What if Scam retires this year, if the Storm make the GF the refs will allow him to get away with blue murder. Spare the thought :tmi:

He missed the 2008 GF :giggle: @:D

Damn you Camoala - again pointing for penalties...and getting them and basically had the 2nd whistle in hid mate for the 80....grow some and get him back in line , basically means the Storm come back into contention if allowed to fall asleep on attackers and control ruck tempo both ways which determines games...

Spot on on all counts!!
