Injured Carroll replaced by Maitua

BULLDOGS utility Reni Maitua has been called into the Australia rugby league squad to replace injured Brisbane Broncos lock Tonie Carroll.

Carroll was forced out of the Tri Nations squad after sustaining a knee injury in the Broncos' 15-8 win over Melbourne in Sunday's grand final.

Maitua, who was approached to play for New Zealand in 2004, received a phone call this morning, and today joined the rest of his new Kangaroos teammates at a medical in Sydney.
