GROWING up in the tough suburb of Kingswood in Sydney’s west, Sea Eagles interchange backrower Jesse Sene-Lefao never dreamt of one day calling Elanora Heights home.

rrabeen last year and promptly made his first grade debut against the Broncos at Suncorp Stadium in round one.

He wasn’t used again by Geoff Toovey in the top grade, but watched on intently as his teammates marched to the grand final.

The father of two spent the off-season pondering what he had to do to ensure he was the top 17 each week in 2014.

“To be honest, the answer was hard work,” he said.

“Playing with blokes like Choc (Anthony Watmough) and Gift (Glenn Stewart) has been great, they give me little pointers here and there.”

Sene-Lefao showed he belongs in the NRL with a dominant display off the pine in last Friday’s controversial 26-21 victory against the Cowboys at Central Coast Stadium.

The Panthers junior, whose inclusion by the coaching staff saw Jason King named 18th man, carted the ball up seven times and made 18 tackles.

He intends on staying a Sea Eagle as long as the club want him.

“My kids are loving life on the beaches, my daughter is getting into ballet and just finished her first season of nippers,’’ Sene-Lefao said. “It is a good place to raise a family. Hopefully I can keep performing and stay for a few more seasons.”

Meanwhile, classy pivot Kieran Foran is expected to be sidelined for at least a month due to a knee injury.

He will also miss the New Zealand v Australia Test match on May 2 at Allianz Stadium.

Club teammate Anthony Watmough is in doubt for the Test after aggravating a pre-existing elbow injury against North Queensland.

He headed for treatment shortly before half-time and was unable to return after the break.

It would be a cruel blow for the second-rower, who missed the Kangaroos’ triumphant World Cup campaign with a knee complaint.

Well if any of our young forwards needed extra incentive at least they now know there's a starting spot up for grabs next season.

Fair bit of hyperbole in this story.
"Hulking". Really? He's not green and there are plenty of players in the NRL bigger than him.
A "dominant" display. Really? He played quite well but I didn't see anything dominant.
I'm being picky, I know, but with the NRL standing by like soft-co*cks and not even trying to help us retain Gifty I have a right to be petulant.

Beg to differ - I stood next to JSL at last year's Fan Day, and the sun disappeared. :)

Pretty sure that he is our tallest Player at 6' 2''.

But Journalism is now all about hyperboles :s

JSL is listed as 189cm and 103kg. By way of comparison, Hasson is 193 and 105kg. There are many players in the NRL that are bigger than JSL, which is why I questioned the word 'hulking'.

By the way: Has the 'Elephant Man' played yet in our reserve grade?

King is at least 6'4", I think JSL is a similar height

Typo - I meant 6'5'' But lean and ripped from what I can see as he surfs at DY

Ela hasn't played yet and this week we won't be able to see NSW Cup at Brookie :( Again, off the field, I wouldn't be taking his lunch monies.:p He would be more in the hulk category than Jesse.

If anyone here is under the delusion that the NRL want us to retain Gifty, then SNAP OUT OF IT. They do NOT want us to retain him. In their eyes, we are successful enough already. They want to take us down 'a peg or two'. Esp Greenturd.
If they had any interest in Long Serving One Club players at all, this was snuffed out the moment they heard the club in question was Manly.
If it hadn't been snuffed out they would have done something about it by now.

You dreamers GROW UP. :exclamation: I suppose you are all hoping that Greenturd's successor will be elected by popular vote amongst all the NRL Club members. And you'd be hoping the Next CEO of the NRL would be an ex-player or coach. Eg Beaver or King Wally, or Gus or Wayne B or whoever of that ilk. Like i said about you dreamers. GET REAL. Its more likely to be James Murdoch or James Packer.:mad:

No no no. Commander will tell you he is bigger than all of them & his jersey size has more x's than a russian porno. He will be our next bookend.

Like the looks of JSL. Has being very impressive with the minutes he has been getting.

Nice to see an actual league story, and a good one at that

I still get nervous the way he holds the ball when bringing it back but other than that he has been very good for us this season
