Manly halfback Trent Hodkinson is set to announce his retirement from rugby league.

Hodkinson played 10 seasons of NRL after making his debut with Manly back in 2010, he played 174 games with four clubs — Manly, Canterbury, Newcastle and Cronulla.

His most remarkable achievement however was leading NSW to a historic 2014 State of Origin series win over Queensland.

“Unfortunately, due to a new injury sustained earlier this year, numerous medical procedures and intensive rehabilitation, I have been forced to give up the game that I love and will be medically retiring from rugby league,’’ Hodkinson said.

Hodkinson, 31, will front the media at Narrabeen at 12.30pm on Friday to discuss his stellar career.

He played six games for NSW and represented City in 2010.

Hodkinson is highly regarded off the field through his outstanding community work

ps he's already 31, players nowadays continue longer due to the money on offer but physically speaking, the bodies of most have taken an awful pummelling by that age!

Sad news to see a great servant of the game hanging up his boots, in Trent Hodkinson. It’ll be announced tomorrow officially, a brilliant career cut short by injury.
Sad news indeed (imo), thanks @Mitch.

Yes he's had to bow to the inevitable but its still sad at his age his injuries have caught up...

Not sad at all, they guy has had an excellent career, and I'm pleased for him (and us) that he is finishing with Manly. That's how it used to go down back in the day. Well done Hodko, I've no doubt he will be successful in his future endeavours.

More so sad that he’s medically retiring mate. Not on his own terms.

Yep. For those who like to criticise Hodko, in 2010 his field goal kicking was instrumental in helping Manly maintain their unbroken run of 10 years of finals’ appearances.

Last year his presence in at least one game (i.e. Penrith at Penrith), probably more, was crucial to winning a game that if we had lost, might have seen Manly collect its first 1st grade wooden spoon.

I read today that Manly has a kicking coach. If that bloke should leave, Hodko could be the perfect replacement. Either way, try and keep him in the Manly coaching pipeline.

I wish him all the best and hope his injuries don't restrict him too much in later life.
